One of five regional units that make up the U. S. Forest Service (USFS) Research and Development organization, the Northern Research Station (NRS) maintains 21 research locations throughout a 20-state territory. The station develops management strategies for plants, soil, air, water, and wildlife to meet the needs of people and communities. NRS scientists are involved in research to understand the processes and extent of global climate change and their probable/possible effects on forest ecosystems.

The Lake Champlain Sea Grant is a cooperative program of the University of Vermont and Plattsburgh State University of New York and part of a national network coordinated by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The project's mission is to identify and address critical ecological and economic issues affecting the Lake Champlain basin and its resources and to share that information. This program empowers communities, businesses, and other stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding the management, conservation, utilization, and rehabilitation of their aquatic resources for long-term environmental health and economic growth.

The center also has a number of published projects, reports, professional papers, and data sheets on a variety of hydrological topics.

U.S. Forest Service Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center
The mission of the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (EFETAC) is an interdisciplinary resource that is actively developing new technology and tools to anticipate and respond to emerging eastern forest threats. EFETAC researchers work with other scientists nationally as well as with a variety of Federal, State, and local government agencies, universities, and non-governmental partners to address forest threats. El Puente is a community human rights institution that promotes leadership for peace and justice through the engagement of members (youth and adult) in the arts, education, scientific research, wellness, and environmental action. Founded in 1982, El Puente currently integrates the diverse activities and community campaigns of its Center for Arts and Culture and its Green Light District & Community Wellness Program within its four neighborhood Leadership Centers, and its nationally recognized public high school, the El Puente Academy for Peace and Justice.
