New Orleans Climate-Smart Cities Decision-Support/Mapping Tool

In collaboration with the Trust for Public Land, the Office of Resilience and Sustainability in New Orleans, Louisiana has completed a publicly accessible Climate-Smart Cities climate risk mapping and planning tool. This decision support tool is designed to guide green infrastructure planning for climate adaptation in New Orleans - through heat mitigation, social equity, flood control, and more. The tool identifies priority areas for multi-benefit green infrastructure investments based on climate impacts, and the location of vulnerable populations in New Orleans.

The Maine Flood Resilience Checklist is a non-regulatory self-assessment tool that allows coastal and inland communities of all sizes to evaluate their vulnerability to flooding and sea level rise, examine areas where current policy and action could use improvements to better address the vulnerabilities, and identify specific strategies and actions to enhance flood resilience. The Checklist is designed to be completed through an interdepartmental, facilitated discussion between decision-makers and key municipal planning, management, emergency and enforcement staff.

Wells-Goodfellow Neighborhood Green Space Project - St. Louis, Missouri

The Green City Coalition (Coalition) -- a partnership between the Metropolitan Sewer District, the City of St. Louis, Missouri Department of Conservation, and the St. Louis Development Corporation -- is leading the conversion of approximately 9 acres of vacant land into greenspace for stormwater management and recreation purposes. The Wells Goodfellow neighborhood in St. Louis has the highest proportion of vacant land in the city, and also struggles with combined sewer overflows, basement backups, and street flooding that affect the Bissell Point Watershed broadly.

Resilience Dividend Valuation Model: Framework Development and Initial Case Studies

This paper summarizes a framework developed by the RAND Corporation and the Rockefeller Foundation for valuing the benefits of an adaptation intervention. The framework is meant to allow practitioners to compare options and assess the value of policies more comprehensively than is possible using indices or scorecards. The paper outlines the technical elements of the “Resilience Dividend Valuation Model (RDVM)” and concludes with examples of how the model was applied in Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Vietnam, and the United States.

California General Plan Guidelines

NYC Municipal Water Efficiency Program: Timed Spray Showers

NYC Municipal Water Efficiency Program: Timed Spray Showers: The New York City Departments of Environmental Protection (DEP) and Parks and Recreation installed water-saving automatic shut-off timers and activation buttons on 400 spray showers at City playgrounds in order to conserve water by ensuring that showers are activated only when in use. The $3 million initiative, funded by DEP and jointly managed through a partnership with NYC Parks, is part of a larger citywide effort to reduce water consumption by 5 percent.
