Lafourche Parish, Louisiana Comprehensive Resiliency Plan

Lafourche Parish in coastal Louisiana created a comprehensive resiliency plan to guide economic development, transportation and land use investments in the parish for the next 20 years, as well as to strengthen local resiliency to natural disasters. In an effort to make wiser and more coordinated development decisions, Lafourche Parish, with the assistance of the Center for Planning Excellence and Office of Community Development, has collaborated with citizens and local businesses to produce this planning document that will provide a blueprint and recommendations for growth and development in Lafourche.

City of Chicago Green Stormwater Infrastructure Strategy
April 2014
In 2014, Chicago, Illinois released its green stormwater infrastructure plan to improve the city’s water quality, reduce flood risks, and build climate resilience. With 26-miles of lakefront and 28-miles of riverfront, Chicago understands that water is both one of its greatest assets and largest sources of risk. This plan describes ways to integrate green techniques into Chicago’s well established, but already overtaxed stormwater system that will only become more burdened as climate change causes increased precipitation.

Great Lakes Restoration and Climate Change Symposium
April 2014
The purpose of the Great Lakes Restoration and Climate Change event was to convene Great Lakes leaders and climate experts to assess the range of impacts of climate change on the Great Lakes, and to develop policy-based strategies to integrate climate variation into future restoration and stewardship practices. Jenny Kehl, the director of the Center for Water Policy at University of Wisconsin’s School of Freshwater Sciences, spearheaded the meeting and action plan.

Minnesota State Hazard Mitigation Plan

Minnesota’s State Hazard Mitigation Plan identifies major natural hazards occurring across the state, and presents a comprehensive assessment of the vulnerability to those hazards. The Plan identifies goals and recommended actions for state government to reduce and/or prevent injury and damage from hazardous events. Beyond compliance to the Federal Disaster Mitigation Act of 2000, Minnesota’s Hazard Mitigation Plan includes a description of the effects of climate change for each of the natural hazards identified.

Washington Marine Shoreline Design Guidelines – Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Considerations

Prepared for the Washington State Aquatic Habitat Guidelines Program, the purpose of these guidelines is to promote responsible management of Puget Sound shores, preserve natural resources and coastal ecological processes, and increase resilience of the shoreline. These guidelines are intended to give the coastal designer an overview of all of the necessary elements to inform the development of project goals and the tools to design appropriate and environmentally responsible projects for marine shores in Puget Sound.

USDA 2014 Climate Change Adaptation Plan

The 2014 U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Climate Change Adaptation Plan presents strategies and actions to address the effects of climate change on key mission areas including agricultural production, food security, rural development, and forestry and natural resources conservation. The Plan includes input from eleven USDA agencies and offices. It provides a detailed vulnerability assessment, reviews the elements of USDA’s mission that are at risk from climate change, and provides specific actions and steps being taken to build resilience to climate change.

The Pioneer Valley Climate Action and Clean Energy Plan presents an impact assessment of climate change in the Pioneer Valley region of Massachusetts, and provides many local and regional climate adaptation strategies. This plan identifies the amounts and sources of the Pioneer Valley’s greenhouse gas emissions; offers regional targets for GHG reduction in a Clean Energy Plan Update; and recommends detailed strategies for both mitigating and adapting to climate change impacts.

The report offers a comprehensive guide for citizens, planners, and communities to explore what drought is, how to track it, its impacts, and how planners and communities can prepare to mitigate its effects. This publication is the result of a partnership between the American Planning Association (APA), the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and the National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS).

Burlington, Vermont Climate Action Plan

This report provides an overview of Burlington Vermont’s Climate Action Plan including climate mitigation and social equity goals. Burlington’s Climate Action Plan is comprised of over 200 strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. A section of the plan is devoted to “Climate Change and Equity,” and the City of Burlington has identified key areas which present equity issues either presently or in the future.

Green Values - National Stormwater Management Calculator
The National Stormwater Management Calculator is one tool found in the “Green Values” Stormwater Toolbox developed by the Center for Neighborhood Technology. The National Green Values Calculator (GVC) is focused on stormwater run-off reduction, and is a tool for comparing the performance, costs, and benefits of green infrastructure, or Low Impact Development (LID), to conventional stormwater practices. The GVC is meant for a single site, or a campus of buildings contained on a single site.
