Adaptation Case Studies in the Western United States

From the Georgetown Climate Center, this report contains two case studies from the Western United States that explore water shortages in the West, water rights along the Colorado River, and the protection of an endangered ground-dwelling bird: the greater sage grouse. In doing so, the report also examines the role of states in adaptation planning and the intersection between state and federal authority.

Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation Strategies into New York State Department of Transportation’s Operations: Final Report

This report was prepared for the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to help them identify the vulnerabilities of the state’s transportation system as well as opportunities to adapt the system and mainstream adaptation into the transportation decision making process. The report is divided into five chapters: an introduction, a discussion of climate change and its intersection with transportation in New York State, a vulnerability and impact assessment, a discussion of adaptation strategies and best practices, recommendation for mainstreaming those strategies into NYSDOT operation, and a communications and technology transfer plan.

Delaware Sea Level Rise Initiative
September 2011
The Delaware Coastal Programs Section of the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) is leading a multi-year Sea Level Rise Initiative to help assess, prepare for and minimize the potential impacts of sea level rise. The Sea Level Rise Initiative Project Compendium was released in September 2011, which provides an inventory of all of Delaware Coastal Programs' projects related to sea level rise. It is intended to help increase collaboration between agencies, reduce redundancy and overlap in projects relating to sea level rise and to relay information about new data, information and tools.

Thirsty for Answers: Preparing for the Water-related Impacts of Climate Change in American Cities
August 2011
In this report the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has compiled local and regional research findings about the water-related impacts of climate change in 12 U. S. cities. NRDC examined more than 75 scientific studies, as well as data and reports generated by government agencies and nonprofit organizations. The report makes clear that some of the most profound effects of climate change are water-related, such as sea-level rise, increased rain and storms, flooding, and drought, and that these kinds of events are likely to increase in the coming years as a result of climate change.

Adapting to Climate Change at Olympic National Forests: Olympic National Park

From the US Forest Service (USFS) Pacific Northwest Research Station, this technical report details a case study determining how to adapt federal land management practices to climate change on the Olympic Peninsula. In collaboration with the Olympic National Park, the Olympic Climate Change Case Study was conducted at Olympic National Forest and involved sensitivity assessments, reviews of management activities and constraints, and focus-area adaptation workshops.
