EPA Climate Resilience and Adaptation Funding Toolbox (CRAFT)

Launched in September 2024, the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's Climate Resilience and Adaptation Funding Toolbox is an online resource that provides information and guidance to help funding applicants and technical assistance (TA) providers better understand EPA programs that can fund climate resilience and adaptation work. CRAFT is intended to be used before, during, and after funding application processes, by providing information about: EPA programs appropriate for incorporating climate resilience considerations, tools that can help stakeholders and applicants better understand climate risks, and materials to help communicate about climate change and environmental justice.

Southeast Sustainable Communities Fund

The Southeast Sustainable Communities Fund (SSCF) supports local communities in the southeastern United States to advance climate adaptation and social equity in local government policy, plans or programs. Grants have been awarded to City and County governments and local partnerships to create socially equitable sustainable energy and/or water initiatives. The fund invested $1. 5 million in 2017 for six projects, and has allocated nearly $1. 8 million in 2018 in support of six more sustainability projects in the Southeast that are addressing climate change impacts, to be implemented across 2019 - 2020.

USGS - Northwest Climate Science Center Funding Opportunity

The U. S. DOI/USGS Northwest Climate Science Center (NW CSC) has announced 2018 funding available for Principal Investigators (PIs) from the NW CSC University Consortium (University of Washington, Boise State Univ. , Univ. of Montana, Washington State Univ. , and Western Washington Univ. ) as well as all USGS PIs. Funded projects will address the goals identified in the NW CSC Science Agenda for 2018-23, through scientific research or data synthesis on climate impacts on endangered species, regional adaptation and management, and social systems.

Federal Funding Compendium for Urban Heat Adaptation
December 2013
From the Georgetown Climate Center, this compendium collects and analyzes federal programs with potential to pay for state and local government adaptation to urban heat islands. This report analyzes federal funding programs providing funding for economic development, energy, environmental protection, public health and transportation to determine whether these purposes can be used to implement measures to reduce the the urban heat island effect in cities. For each program, the report includes information on who can apply for the funds, what activities the funds can be used to fund, amount of money in the program and average size of grant, as well as potential for use in adaptation.

Maryland Office of Home Energy Programs: Energy Assistance: The Office of Home Energy Programs (OHEP) provides bill assistance to low-income households in the State of Maryland to make energy costs more affordable and ensure the stability of home energy services through several programs. Virginia SB 320 Community Flood Preparedness Fund
April 22, 2020
In 2020, Virginia created the Virginia Community Flood Preparedness Fund (Virginia Code §§ 10. 1-603. 24 and 10. 1-603. 25). Through this law, the state established a low-interest revolving loan fund to help local governments and communities adapt to increasing coastal and inland flooding from multiple, different sources, including sea-level rise and precipitation. The purpose of the fund is to enhance the state’s overall coastal resilience by funding flood prevention and mitigation projects, prioritizing projects in low-income areas and that are designed with nature-based solutions.

Florida SB 1638 (2024): Funding for Environmental Resource Management
April 4, 2024
In April 2024, the Governor of Florida signed Senate Bill 1638 into law to bolster funding for environmental resource management. Codified in Fla. Stat. §380.095 (2024), the Act establishes two important revenue streams: a one-time grant of $150 million and a recurring portion of the Seminole Tribe Gaming Compact allocated for extreme weather resilience, water infrastructure upgrades, and management of state conservation lands.
