EPA Environmental Justice 2020 Action Agenda

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental Justice 2020 Action Agenda (EJ 2020) is the Agency’s environmental justice strategic plan for 2016 to 2020. The plan focuses on the environmental and public health issues for the nation’s minority, low-income, tribal and indigenous populations - and includes information on EPA’s climate justice initiatives. The goals of the agenda are to further integrate environmental justice considerations in all of the Agency’s programs; strengthen EPA’s collaboration with federal, state, tribal, community, and industry partners partners; and demonstrate progress on significant national challenges facing minority and low-income communities.

Hampton Roads Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience Intergovernmental Pilot Project Phase 2 Report: Recommendations, Accomplishments and Lessons Learned

The Hampton Roads Sea Level Rise Preparedness and Resilience Intergovernmental Planning Pilot Project was a two-year project to develop an adaptive planning strategy for sea level rise and recurrent flooding - through the collaboration of academic, military, government, and community partners. The Pilot sought to develop resilience and preparedness measures at the regional level with emphasis on impacts to national security and the economy, and to create a framework or template for intergovernmental strategic planning that could be used outside the region.

Washtenaw County, Michigan Water Resources Commissioner Rules and Guidelines: Procedures and Design Criteria for Stormwater Management Systems
2014, Revised 2016
Michigan's Washtenaw County Water Resource Commissioner guidelines promote stream channel protection and stormwater management for flood control, and have been updated to address improved water quality and availability. The guidelines outline the best management practices (BMPs) that should guide the design criteria for green infrastructure installations. The rules address when different BMPs are appropriate, how to design and build them (including calculations for runoff), how to test their effectiveness, and how to maintain them over time.

ClimateCARE Resiliency Work Plan

This proposal, which was funded in 2016, maps out the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, Inc. (NOAH)’s Climate: Community Action for Resilience through Engagement (ClimateCARE) program in East Boston. ClimateCARE seeks to a) strengthen community engagement, b) partner with the City of Boston to advance its Climate Action Plan, and c) convene agency stakeholders in an Adaptation Planning Working Group which will facilitate coordinated, actionable climate resilience plans. In addition to detailing these initiatives, the report describes the climate-related risks in East Boston and their workplan for 2016-2018.

Chippewa of Lake Superior 1854 Ceded Territory Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan

In 1854, the Chippewa of Lake Superior entered into a treaty with the United States whereby the Chippewa ceded to the United States ownership of their lands in northeastern Minnesota. These lands are the so-called "1854 ceded territory. " Article 11 of the 1854 Treaty provides: ". . . And such of them as reside in the territory hereby ceded, shall have the right to hunt and fish therein, until otherwise ordered by the President. " The Chippewa of Lake Superior who reside in the ceded territory are the Fond du Lac, Grand Portage and Bois Forte Bands.

The King County, Washington Equity and Social Justice Strategic Plan provides the county’s blueprint and shared vision for addressing environmental justice, advancing equity, and fostering resiliency. The Plan was developed through a diverse and inclusive community engagement process including more than 600 county employees and 100 local organizations. The Plan sets a pro-equity agenda for expanding access and addressing the following determinants of equity: child and youth development, economic development and jobs, environment and climate, health and human services, housing, information and technology, the justice system, and transportation and mobility.

Kent County, Maryland Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Adaptation Report

This report summarizes the climate change impacts occurring in Kent County, Maryland, and recommends adaptation actions for increasing the resilience of residents, county facilities, and operations. The report includes a Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment for Kent County which finds that climate change is increasing the risk of localized natural hazards. The assessment describes current and projected climate change impacts including heat, precipitation, sea level rise, and flooding in the region.

Michigan Climate and Health Adaptation Program Strategic Plan Update: 2016-2021

In 2011, the Michigan Department of Community Health released their first strategic adaptation plan for 2010-2015, providing the foundation for moving climate and health adaptation planning forward in Michigan. The Strategic Plan Update retains the original plan’s goals, tracks progress, and offers new strategies for the 2016-2021 period. The Michigan Climate and Health Adaptation Program (MICHAP) will be cooperating in CDC’s Climate and Health Adaptation and Monitoring Program (CHAMP), and strategies have been updated according to the CHAMP requirements.
