Oregon Conservation Strategy - State Wildlife Action Plan, 2016 Update

Originally published in 2006, the Oregon Conservation Strategy was updated in 2012 and 2016, and is the official State Wildlife Action Plan for Oregon. The Strategy is a plan for the long-term conservation of Oregon’s fish and wildlife, and presents non-regulatory recommended actions and tools for state agents, and the general public. The Key Conservation Issues identified include climate change, and the plan offers a number of goals and actions in support of wildlife adaptation to climate impacts in Oregon.

Climate Change and the Electricity Sector: DOE Guide for Assessing Vulnerabilities and Developing Resilience Solutions to Sea Level Rise

S Department of Energy (DOE) to provide guidance for evaluating how sea level rise and storm surge hazards may affect electricity services, and for identifying solutions to enhance resilience to these climate impacts. It includes examples of climate resilience issues and opportunities related to generation, transmission, and distribution assets; and includes generalized methods on how to estimate the costs and benefits of various sea level rise (SLR) resilience measures.

FEMA, NOAA Draft Interagency Concept for Community Resilience Indicators and National-Level Measures

The Draft Interagency Concept for Community Resilience Indicators and National-Level Measures paper seeks to identify a common framework for communities to assess their resilience using federal data. Published by the Mitigation Framework Leadership Group (MitFLG) - a federal workgroup led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - the report provides indicators aimed at helping local communities to gauge their own resilience capacity and federal agencies to determine the effectiveness of their actions.

City of Del Mar, California Climate Action Plan

The City of Del Mar, California adopted a Climate Action Plan in June 2016. The plan focuses on how the city is going to reach a goal of 100% renewable power by 2035, the plan also includes a chapter on adaptation (Chapter 4). The Adaptation Chapter lays out climate change projections that the city can anticipate: warmer temperatures, increased droughts, and more extreme weather events. It then lays out specific adaptation strategies by sector and impact, including the following examples: Public health - restore natural areas to improve air and water quality; facilitate access to cooling centers; reduce urban heat islands with cool pavements and by increasing urban tree canopy; design buildings to reduce reliance on mechanical cooling and energy (e.

Adaptation Planning for Climate Resilience: A Michigan Army National Guard Pilot Project

As established by the Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 4715. 21 for Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience, the DoD is updating current directives to consider the effects of climate change on its operations. The DoD is leading a pilot project to begin working with local communities on climate resilience planning. The National Guard Adaptation Planning Pilot Project has been implemented for Camp Grayling, Michigan. This report details an action plan developed for Camp Grayling Joint Maneuver Training Center - aimed at managing the impacts of climate change on the installation, as well as in the greater community.

The Governors’ Action Plan III for Healthy and Resilient Coasts is the third report in a series of action plans from the Gulf of Mexico Alliance that addresses issues common to all Gulf States. This report is a five-year plan for six regional priorities including Coastal Resilience, Data and Monitoring, Education and Engagement, Habitat Resources, Water Resources, and Wildlife and Fisheries. The Gulf of Mexico Alliance is a cooperative partnership of the five U. S. Gulf States (Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas), federal agencies, academic organizations, businesses, and other non-governmental organizations.

Case Study of Efforts to Promote Resilient Affordable Housing in New Orleans
2016
The City of New Orleans is prioritizing efforts to provide safe, affordable housing as part of its resilience strategy. In June 2016, the City released its Housing for a Resilient New Orleans: Five-Year Strategy, that lays out the City's approach for protecting and enhancing safe and affordable housing as the City continues to rebound from Katrina and other hurricanes. Although the Strategy does not explicitly address climate change, it does talk about the resilience challenges posed by the lack of safe and affordable housing and it discusses the city's plan for preserving and enhancing existing affordable housing and building new housing.

Climate Adaptation Plan for the Territories of the Yakama Nation

The Yakama Nation recognizes that climate change is a threat to future generations, tribal culture and way of life. This adaptation plan identifies important natural and cultural resources’ vulnerability to climate change, current tribal work that will help reduce local climate impacts, and specific recommendations for priority risk assessments and adaptation strategies for the Yakama tribes and reservation lands in the Yakama River basin of Washington state. Along with the assessment, the Yakama Nation Tribal Council directed programs to prepare and present recommendations for addressing climate vulnerabilities and risks and rebuild resilience.
