American Water Works Association (AWWA)
With over 60,000 members and over 4,700 utility members, the American Water Works Association is the authoritative resource on safe water, providing knowledge, information and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond.
The American Water Works Association recognizes that global climate changes will have major impacts on the hydrologic cycle and, therefore, have the potential to significantly affect water supplies. AWWA supports the development of more refined global climate models and tools to better understand and address these impacts at a water utility-relevant scale.
In terms of climate change, AWWA encourages water utilities to: 1) Support regional climate change modeling; 2) Respond proactively to anticipated climate changes; 3) Develop adaptation and mitigation responses for a range of predicted climate change impacts; and 4) Reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions as reasonably feasible.
