East Central Florida Regional Resilience Collaborative

The East Central Florida Regional Resilience Collaborative, formalized on May 15, 2019, is an intergovernmental network built around three key aspects of resilience: health and equity, built infrastructure and natural environment, and economic resilience. The Collaborative aims to reduce the region’s carbon footprint, lower the risks and vulnerabilities utilizing emergency management, and increase efforts towards sustainability on a regional scale.

The Collaborative is composed of five county and 20 city members, as well as regional agencies, and academic and nonprofit partners. The Collaborative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding which recognizes the unique risks posed by climate change to the East Central Florida region and commits the members to:

  • Cooperating with other members to advance regional work;
  • Working together to produce a regional resiliency plan;
  • Developing a shared legislative strategy and aligning individual member’s policies as much as possible;
  • Growing community involvement; and
  • Participating in an annual summit.

The Collaborative is organized and facilitated by the East Central Florida Regional Planning Council, which was established in 1962 and provides technical assistance to governments and organizations in the 8-County East Central Florida region. The Planning Council provides environmental planning, urban design, geographic information systems, transportation studies, comprehensive planning, health, resiliency, economic analysis, and emergency management.
