Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, Inc. (NOAH)
NOAH, the Neighborhood of Affordable Housing, is an East Boston-based community development corporation structured to collaborate with and support residents and communities in their pursuit of affordable housing strategies, environmental justice, community planning, leadership development, and economic development opportunities.
NOAH’s ClimateCARE program works towards a new urban environmentalism in East Boston, so that people can take individual and collective action to increase their community’s climate resilience. In the initial phase of the program, NOAH convened key city and agency stakeholders to build a coalition that could effectively support East Boston residents in their environmental change efforts. NOAH also implemented a "Supported Community Participatory Planning Model" to educate and engage disadvantaged East Boston residents in the climate resilience conversation. In early 2016, NOAH received a 3-year Implementation Grant Award from the Kresge Foundation to further its climate change resiliency efforts. This grant allowed NOAH to move forward with its three-part ClimateCARE program which includes strengthening community engagement; partnering with the City of Boston to advance its Climate Action Plan; and convening agency stakeholders in an Adaptation Planning Working Group which will facilitate coordinated, actionable climate resilience plans.
