Puget Sound Sage

Puget Sound Sage is an organization led by majority women of color that seeks to improve the lives of all families, with a focus on serving the interests of low-income people, communities of color, immigrants, and refugees in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. In particular, Puget Sound Sage advocates for policy change at the local and regional level in Seattle, South King County, and North Pierce County. Puget Sound Sage combines strategic research, policy analysis, community organizing, and coalition-building to advance racial equity, stronger democracy, good jobs, a?ordable housing, accessible transit, and a healthy environment.

Puget Sound Sage's Climate Justice program seeks to place communities disproportionately impacted by climate change at the center of climate resiliency strategies. In response to the public health and displacement concerns of these communities, the program works to address existing vulnerabilities and shift government approaches to be "equity-first." Displacement poses a threat to both social cohesion and health, two vital components of climate resilient communities. Puget Sound Sage emphasizes the importance of protecting “cultural anchors” -- immigrant and community of color owned small businesses, ethnic community centers, places of worship, social service agencies, and culturally competent health care providers -- that can play a major role in the case of a climate disaster or heat wave.

In 2016, Got Green and Puget Sound Sage co-authored the community-based report Our People, Our Planet, Our Power outlining a path toward climate resilience in South Seattle.
