USGS North Carolina Water Science Center

The USGS North Carolina Water Science Center investigates the occurrence, distribution, quantity, movement, and chemical and biological quality of North Carolina's surface and ground water. Specific water resources activities of the North Carolina Water Science Center include collection and analysis of long-term (prior to 1900) data for streams, reservoirs, estuaries, and groundwater; and short-term interpretive investigations of specific water-resources issues on regional, State, and national levels. Investigations include the study of urbanization and flooding, water quality of the North Carolina's major river basins, sedimentation of rivers and lakes, and contamination of surface water and groundwater. The North Carolina Water Science Center's main office is in Raleigh, with satellite offices in Charlotte and Asheville.

USGS Water Science Centers are located in each state, producing data for the 50 states, U.S. territories, and the District of Columbia.
