Smart Growth America State Resilience Program
Smart Growth America’s State Resilience Program offers state leaders and agencies resources, tools, and educational opportunities for hazard resiliency planning. The Program’s land use and engagement strategies are developed from the experience of peer agencies from across the country, the latest research on programs and activities that states control, and proven approaches for building municipal partnerships.
States interested in resilience work can learn from the experiences of other state leaders engaged in recovery, mitigation and adaptation efforts, and integrate these lessons learned into their own plans and practices.
Resiliency planning and implementation resources provided online are organized into major topic areas:
- Private Sector Engagement and Economic Impacts
- Local and Regional Best Practices for Land Use and Resilience
- State Coordinating Role
- Data Sources
Smart Growth America’s State Resilience Program was launched at the 2014 State Resilience and Economic Growth Summit, hosted by the Governors’ Institute on Community Design, an initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation, administered by Smart Growth America.
Smart Growth America is the only national organization dedicated to researching, advocating for and leading coalitions to bring smart growth practices to more communities nationwide.
Smart Growth America has also developed a brief guidance document for state-level decision making and resiliency planning: “Building Resilient States: A Framework for Agencies.”
