The Role of Coastal Zone Management Programs in Adaptation to Climate Change - Final Report of the CSO Climate Change Work Group

The Coastal States Organization’s (CSO) Climate Change Work Group prepared this report to explore the current and future roles of state coastal zone management programs in addressing climate change.

While the first part of this report is the results of a second annual survey, it is the 2007 survey results report in Appendix B that is noteworthy.  It provides a comprehensive assessment of various states' coastal program climate change initiatives as well as a statement of national policy needs. Adaptation strategies are presented from several coastal managers for a variety of sea-level rise scenarios. Coastal programs within broader climate change initiatives from statewide, interagency climate change partnerships are reviewed for several states. Mitigation strategies for statewide greenhouse gas emissions, and state data collection, research efforts and future needs are addressed as well.
