Proposition 1 - the Water Quality, Supply and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 - is a $7.545 billion general obligation bond measure approved by California voters on Nov. 4, 2014 ballot. The measure will provide funding for needed investments as part of a statewide, comprehensive water plan for California. In part, the Act was passed to help the state address the drought and the impacts of climate change on water supplies and ecosystems.

HUD Choice Neighborhoods Planning and Implementation Grants

The U. S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issues both planning and implementation grants through the Choice Neighborhoods program. Planning grants can be used to develop comprehensive neighborhood transformation plans to identify strategies for revitalizing housing, coordinating and delivering support services, providing educational opportunities, and improving neighborhood assets. Implementation grants support those communities that have undergone a comprehensive local planning process and are ready to implement their Transformation Plan to redevelop the neighborhood.

Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative

The Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative, Amendment 1, approved on November 4, 2014, dedicates state funds to acquire and restore Florida conservation and recreation lands. " This report shares ACT 2015’s research on key elements of the 2015 climate agreement. The paper explores some of the primary issues relating to climate adaptation, incorporating loss and damage (L&D), and outlines options for addressing them in the 2015 agreement.

The Challenge of Mitigating Virginia’s Flooding and Sea Level Rise Impacts
November 2014
This report outlines potential flood risk within Hampton Roads, Virginia, finding nearly $431,000,000 in pending costs to fix flood-damaged structures. The study also found that, at current rates of hazard mitigation payments from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), it would take between 78-188 years to clear a backlog of flood-damaged property needs. Given this situation, Wetlands Watch suggests using revolving loan funds to meet the sea level rise adaptation needs in coastal Virginia.

King County, Washington Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan Update
November 2014
The King County, Washington Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan reflects a partnership between the County and 55 different cities, schools, fire districts, hospitals and utility districts throughout the County to identify and mitigate the impacts of disasters - including the impacts of climate change. In 2015, the final updated plan was approved by Washington State and FEMA. Federal compliance rules require this plan be updated every five years.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Climate Adaptation Plan

As part of President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, Federal agencies released their agency Sustainability Plans and Climate Change Adaptation Plans on October 31, 2014. The agencies were directed to assess their vulnerabilities to climate change impacts in these plans, and to outline how they will protect Federal programs, assets and investments. The U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Climate Adaptation Plan commits HHS to preparing for the challenges posed by climate change by leading the way on implementation of sustainable operations, promoting climate-resilient health and human services, supporting scientific research focused on the effects of climate change on human health and well-being, as well as developing effective risk reduction and adaptation measures.
