Developing Urban Climate Adaptation Indicators

2016

The Urban Sustainability Directors Network (USDN) in partnership with the Institute for Sustainable Communities evaluated seven existing sets of climate indicators to determine if any of these frameworks could be adapted to serve city-level needs for evaluating and reporting progress on climate adaptation goals.  This report summarizes their assessment.  They determined that none of the existing frameworks serve the needs of cities perfectly, but many offer insights that can guide USDN members as they develop their own sets of indicators.

Developing Socio-Economic Metrics to Measure DOI Hurricane Sandy Project and Program Outcomes

December 11, 2015

U. S. Department of Interior resilience projects developed in response to Hurricane Sandy were examined for their performance as related to goals and actual outcomes.  DOI has in turn developed metrics to measure changes in ecological resilience resulting from the DOI-sponsored projects, and determined that a separate analysis was needed for the development of socio-economic metrics.  This report summarizes the DOI investment portfolio; the process to develop socio-economic metrics for the habitat and activities of existing and future coastal resilience efforts; and reviews the application of the socioeconomic and ecological metrics from project, region, and programmatic scales.

Virginia Accomplishments since the 2008 Climate Action Plan Release

December 2014

Prepared by the Virginia Institute of Marine Science and the Virginia Coastal Policy Clinic at William and Mary School of Law, this report offers an assessment of Virginia’s climate mitigation and adaptation progress since the release of its first Climate Action Plan in 2008. The report analyzes that plan and two subsequent adaptation focused reports, finding that a lack of coordination has lead to “disjointed” efforts, and offers recommendations for more streamlined climate action moving forward.
