US EPA Planning Framework for a Climate-Resilient Economy

April 2016

This framework developed by US EPA is designed to help local governments build climate-resilient economies by helping them prepare for and quickly recovery from climate impacts. The purpose of the framework is to help communities assess potential impacts to local business and their overall economic vulnerabilities to climate change.  The framework can be used to help communities integrate economic resilience into existing plans, such as comprehensive plans, hazard mitigation plans, economic development plans, capital improvement plans, transportation plans, etc.

EPA 2016 Workplan: National Water Program Response to Climate Change

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) National Water Program Workplan describes the actions that the National Water Program was planning to take in 2016 to implement the National Water Program 2012 Strategy: Response to Climate Change.  The 2012 Strategy describes long-term goals for the EPA’s management of sustainable water resources under the impacts of climate change. The EPA states that the Workplan is intended to be a roadmap to guide program planning and inform decision-makers during the Agency’s planning and budgeting process.

NYC Climate Justice Agenda 2016: Strengthening the Mayor's OneNYC Plan

In this report, the NYC Environmental Justice Alliance (NYC-EJA) presents an analysis of Mayor Bill de Blasio’s OneNYC Plan and recommends ways to strengthen the city government’s efforts to cultivate climate justice. The document is organized under five themes: (1) climate adaptation and mitigation, (2) equity and infrastructure, (3) public health, (4) community preparedness, and (5) community-based planning. Under each theme, NYC-EJA lists the strengths and shortcomings of OneNYC, as well as a set of recommendations to build a more just, equitable, and resilient city.

Led by San Francisco Planning and San Francisco Public Works, the Sea Level Rise Action Plan describes the objectives for future sea level rise and coastal flooding planning and mitigation in the City and County of San Francisco, California. The plan summarizes current climate science, relevant policies and regulations, and vulnerability and risk assessments conducted to date; provides a roadmap with both short-term and long-term sea level rise adaptation actions; and establishes a framework for further assessment, adaptation planning, and implementation.

Maryland Cultural Resources Hazard Mitigation Planning Program

2016

Maryland Historical Trust's (MHT) Cultural Resources Hazard Mitigation Planning Program was a two-year program created to help local governments plan, prepare for, and protect against climate impacts such as flooding, wind, and coastal erosion that affect historic places and properties, archeological sites, and cultural landscapes across the state of Maryland. Under this program, MHT developed trainings, model guidance and educational materials to help local governments create hazard mitigation plans for their cultural resources.

Long-Term Drought Resilience Federal Action Plan of the National Drought Resilience Partnership

March 2016

President Obama established the National Drought Resilience Partnership (NDRP) in November 2013 as part of his Climate Action Plan. On March 21, 2016, Obama signed a Presidential Memorandum on Building National Capabilities for Long-Term Drought Resilience, directing the NDRP to work collaboratively to deliver on a Federal Action Plan designed to complement state, regional, tribal and local drought preparedness, planning and implementation efforts.  This Action Plan lays out a series of activities to fulfill the President’s drought resilience goals, which are intended to be undertaken in 2016 or 2017.
