Florida and Climate Change: The Costs of Inaction

This report was the first detailed analysis of the potential consequences of continued climate change for the state of Florida's economy. The report concludes that, if left unchecked, climate change will significantly harm Florida’s economy in the next several decades, and that impacts on just three sectors - tourism, electric utilities, and real estate - together with effects of hurricanes, would shrink Florida’s Gross State Product by 5% by the end of the century.

The US Economic Impacts of Climate Change and the Costs of Inaction

This report presents a review of economic studies for the U. S. , as related to some predicted impacts of climate change. The "costs of inaction" are evaluated - how a failure to reduce greenhouse gases can make response and adaptation to climate impacts even more expensive. The analysis is not focused on the costs of controlling emissions, rather it considers resultant expenses, such as rebuilding communities and other ripple economic effects on many sectors, in order to develop a more comprehensive estimate of financial impact.

Impacts of Global Warming on North Carolina's Coastal Economy
June 21, 2007
A scientific study was undertaken by researchers at four North Carolina universities to consider three aspects of the state's coastal economy and their vulnerability to a changing climate including: the impacts of sea-level rise on the coastal real estate market, the impacts of sea-level rise on coastal recreation and tourism, and the impacts of stronger tropical storms and hurricanes on business activity. The study used a range of moderate assumptions, not best- or worst-case scenarios. This brief summary brochure is designed to present the main findings of the study for the benefit of the public and policy makers.

RichmondBUILD Academy - City of Richmond, California
2007
RichmondBUILD is a public-private partnership initiative launched by the City of Richmond, California to train individuals on developing the necessary talent and skill to join careers in the renewable energy or construction industries. RichmondBUILD has focused its efforts on recruiting participants from low-income households throughout the community. Since its launch in 2007, a majority of graduates of the workforce training program have been minorities (90%), and it includes a large percentage of individuals who have a history with the justice system (30%).

Getting Ahead of the Curve: Corporate Strategies that Address Climate Change

This report provides a “how to” guide and six detailed case studies to assist companies in developing a strategy to mitigate climate change related risk. The report also offers perspective on corporate views on greenhouse gas (GHG) regulation, government assistance for technology advancement, and other business related policy issues. Findings are the result of research and best practices from 31 corporations surveyed by the Pew Center on Global Climate Change (now the Center for Energy and Climate Solutions or C2ES).

People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH Buffalo), New York

People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) Buffalo was founded in 2005 to serve as a resource to residents in Western New York communities to help provide affordable, resilient housing, create local hiring opportunities for underserved members of the community, and to “advance economic and environmental justice in Buffalo. ” Since its founding the non-profit has established a wide variety of programs that advance these goals, and provides employment opportunities statewide. The Hiring Hall program helps to staff PUSH Green with underemployed and underrepresented members of the Buffalo community - especially people of color and women - to train disadvantaged residents on a variety of different careers, with a focus on the green energy/technology field.
