The Cleveland Tree Plan

In 2015, the City of Cleveland, Ohio published the Cleveland Tree Plan to provide a comprehensive assessment of the city’s current urban forest and an actionable strategy to restore it. In addition to identifying strategies for enhancing and restoring the city's urban tree canopy, the plan identifies 25 indicators for assessing the health of the city's urban forest. The report describes restoration and maintenance of the city's urban tree canopy as a critical component of their efforts to prepare for the impacts of climate change.

Missouri Comprehensive State Energy Plan
October 2015
In October 2015, officials within the Missouri Department of Economic Development and the Division of Energy released the Comprehensive State Energy Plan, which outlined recommendations that would help the state transition to cleaner, more affordable, and more reliable energy. As a result of numerous public meetings and significant stakeholder participation, the agencies were able to divide their recommendations into five categories that would help Missouri achieve its energy goals: promoting efficiency of use; ensuring affordability; diversifying and promoting security in supply; undertaking regulatory improvements; and stimulating innovation, emerging technologies, and job creation. Compliance with these statewide recommendations will help to create new jobs, expand the economy, facilitate more efficient use of energy in all sectors, and help households more effectively manage their energy budgets – all in a more equitable manner. The Plan is a living document that serves as a resource for all elected officials, communities, businesses, and even individuals. In local, frontline communities especially, it is intended to serve as the basis for developing community-specific plans that not only emphasize its energy resources, but the priorities of the area.

City of Alexandria, Virginia Floodplain Management Plan
2015
In 2012, the City of Alexandria, Virginia (by Council Resolution No. 2496) adopted the Northern Virginia Hazard Mitigation Plan Update and received credit under the federal Community Rating System (CRS) program to reduce flood risk and lower insurance premiums in its community. CRS is a voluntary program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the National Flood Insurance Program that allows participating local governments to earn discounts on their residents’ flood insurance premiums by implementing different flood mitigation actions.

Cleveland Climate Resiliency and Urban Opportunity Initiative

Cleveland Neighborhood Progress, in partnership with the University of Buffalo and the Cleveland Office of Sustainability, initiated a project in 2015 to improve climate resilience in Cleveland neighborhoods. The project seeks to take an asset-based approach to adaptation planning, building upon existing partnerships, programs, the work of community organizations and residents, and a large inventory of vacant land. With support from the Kresge Foundation, a team of trained Climate Ambassadors began work in four neighborhoods to recruit participants for community workshops and to identify projects, programs, policies, and future research.

Oregon 2015 Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan

The Oregon Natural Hazards Mitigation Plan (NHMP) identifies Oregon’s natural hazards and their probability, the state’s vulnerabilities, its mitigation strategies, and prioritized actions to reduce vulnerability to natural hazards. The plan includes the results from a state-wide risk assessment, regional risk assessments for eight regions in Oregon, a mitigation strategy, and an “enhanced” plan. The Risk Assessment introduces how the state is impacted by climate change, and how climate change is predicted to impact each hazard statewide.

Colorado Climate Plan - State Level Policies and Strategies to Mitigate and Adapt (2015)

The Colorado Climate Plan is a statewide strategy of policy recommendations and actions to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions and to increase Colorado’s climate preparedness. The Plan focuses on seven main sectors affected by climate change, including water, public health, energy, transportation, agriculture, tourism and recreation, and ecosystems.

U.S. State Wildlife Action Plans, Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategies
In 2002 Congress began funding the State Wildlife Grants program with the intent to conserve wildlife in the U.S. and in particular to prevent new listings of endangered species under the provisions of the Endangered Species Act. The State Wildlife Grants program provides federal grant funds for developing and implementing programs that benefit wildlife and their habitats through annual appropriations to state wildlife agencies.

Delaware Wildlife Action Plan 2015-2025

In accordance with congressional requirements, Delaware’s Wildlife Action Plan provides an inventory of natural resources information and conservation programs in the state, lists the species of greatest conservation needs (SGCN), their key habitats, issues, research needs, and conservation actions. In keeping with Delaware’s Wildlife Action Plan published in 2006, this updated plan published in 2015 acknowledges climate change as a primary challenge to conserving the state’s wildlife population.

New York State Wildlife Action Plan
September 2015
The New York State Wildlife Action Plan is a ten year plan designed to protect threatened and declining wildlife populations across the state, and to guide biodiversity conservation initiatives. For the 2015 update, the NY Department of Environmental Conservation and agency partners completed assessments for nearly 600 wildlife species, and identified 366 Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) for immediate conservation action. Climate change, along with pollution, invasive species, and loss of habitat to development are the threats that are considered of highest concern to New York’s SGCN - and the plan includes many strategies to address climate impacts on these species.
