The National Research Council of the National Academies developed the Committee on Increasing National Resilience to Hazards and Disasters to examine ways to increase disaster resilience in the United States. The committee’s report presents its findings and recommendations on how to increase the nation’s resilience to disasters through a vision of the characteristics of a resilient nation in the year 2030.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) Framework

CDC’s Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) framework provides specific guidance to states and cities on developing strategies and programs aimed at reducing the health consequences of climate change. CDC provides funding for state, territorial and tribal health departments to conduct analytic and programmatic activities by developing public health adaptation strategies using the BRACE framework. CDC’s Climate-Ready States and Cities Initiative is already helping 16 states and 2 cities develop ways to anticipate the public health effects of climate change by applying climate science, predicting specific impacts, and preparing flexible localized programs.

'Adapting to Sea Level Rise: A Guide for California’s Coastal Communities' was created to serve as a guide for California’s coastal managers and community planners to develop adaptation plans for sea level rise (SLR) that are suited to their local conditions and communities. The guide begins with background information about climate change and SLR, and an explanation of why planners in coastal communities should begin to plan for SLR and the associated coastal hazards. The remaining sections describe the processes of performing SLR vulnerability assessments and risk analysis for the development of adaptation plans that can be tailored specifically to individual communities.

Nez Perce Tribe Clearwater River Subbasin Climate Change Adaptation Plan

The Nez Perce Tribe Water Resources Division (NPTWRD) developed this adaptation plan to increase awareness around climate change issues in the Clearwater River Subbasin. Home to the Nez Perce, the Subbasin covers just over 9,000 square miles in Idaho that includes a mix of federal, state, tribal and privately-owned land. Historically hunter-gatherers, the Tribe’s connection to the land is reflected today through dependence on industries such as agriculture, timber production, and tourism and recreation.

City of Santa Cruz, California Climate Adaptation Plan

The City of Santa Cruz, California is uniquely situated along the Pacific Ocean cliffs and Monterey Bay beaches, surrounded by a greenbelt of open space areas, with a river running through its downtown and tourist-serving areas. Although all of this is a part of its appeal, these features also increase its vulnerability to the impacts of climate change. The Climate Change Adaptation Plan (CCAP) was approved in December of 2011, identifying the City's most significant potential climate change risks and vulnerabilities, defining the actions to guide current and future adaptation planning, and overall creating a framework for decision makers to build a more resilient and sustainable community, informed by the most current climate science.

City of Santa Cruz Climate Adaptation Plan - Transportation Measures

This document provides a review of sea level rise (SLR) impacts on tidal wetlands in the Northeast as well as step-by-step guidance on the incorporation of relative sea level rise into tidal wetland restoration design. The report outlines a five part process to guide impact analyses and planning during their feasibility, design and monitoring phases.
