Resilient Atlanta - Actions to Build an Equitable Future

The City of Atlanta, Georgia's urban resilience strategy, Resilient Atlanta, offers a set of visions, targets, and actions that address social equity and climate change adaptation. The strategy was developed to support the prevention of, and resilience to, extreme climate events such as major floods or heat waves, and long-term chronic stresses such as income inequality, lack of affordable housing, and the effects of climate change.

Fourth Regional Plan for NY-NJ-CT metro region

The plan identifies financing for new resilient infrastructure, expands the transit network, builds more green infrastructure for climate adaptation, and invests in communities economic growth and sustainability.

Detroit, Michigan Climate Action Plan

The Detroit Action Plan provides an accessible introduction to climate change, an overview of the expected trends and impacts in Detroit, and strategies for mitigating emissions and preparing for climate risks. In 2011, the nonprofit Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice convened the Detroit Climate Action Collaborative (DCAC) that brought 27 organizations together to collectively envision the strategy presented in this plan.

Delaware Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Planning

The Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Planning (CMAP) report for Delaware was prepared by the state’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control as part of a pilot project to address the risk climate change poses to public use and critical function facilities. Three pilot facilities were assessed for both their ability to maintain operations during climate change fueled weather events and at higher temperatures - including the Delaware State Parks Indian River Life Saving Station, a Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) building, and a state police facility.

San Diego County Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan 2017

San Diego County, California updated its local hazard mitigation plan in 2017 to include climate change as an "emerging hazard. " Climate change is not treated as a focal hazard in and of itself in San Diego County’s plan, but as a contributing factor that could affect the location, extent, probability, and magnitude of other hazards. This risk assessment considers climate change as a threat multiplier for extreme heat, coastal storms/erosion, wildfire, flooding, and drought/water supply.

Planning for Equity in Parks with Green Infrastructure

From the Natural Recreation and Park Association, this report summarizes research on the social and health outcomes related to the implementation of green infrastructure and parks in traditionally underserved communities. Findings suggest that while green infrastructure and green space can buffer climate impacts, they also enhance social equity by building social capital, improving health outcomes, and increasing economic opportunities.
