USGS Integrated Watershed Scale Response to Global Change in Selected Basins Across the United States

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has utilized water availability models to project local-level climate change impacts in 14 water basins. To determine the sensitivity and potential effect of long-term climate change on the freshwater resources of the U. S. , the USGS Global Change study, “An integrated watershed scale response to global change in selected basins across the United States” was started in 2008 and published its results in 2012. The long-term goal of this study is to provide the foundation for hydrologically based climate change studies across the nation.

Adapting to Climate Change While Planning for Disaster: Footholds, Rope Lines, and the Iowa Floods

This report uses the example of flood recovery after the 2008 Midwest floods to propose a more effective way for federal, state, and municipal governments to work together to address the impacts of climate change. The Environmental Protection Agency conducted a pilot project providing technical assistance to vulnerable cities in eastern Iowa, and the analysis was utilized as a case study for this report. The results of the Iowa Pilot Project are relevant to many climate change adaptation efforts around the country.

SECURE Water Act Section 9503-Reclamation Climate Change and Water 2016

The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation developed this report in response to the SECURE Water Act of 2009 - outlining climate change impacts on water basins in the Southwestern U.S. The report provides comprehensive assessments of risk across each of Reclamation's major eight basins and summarizes hydrologic changes that would take place in response to projected climate change.

Iowa Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Report – Findings Related to Infrastructure

The Iowa Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Report identifies barriers to and incentives for incorporating climate change information into local hazard mitigation and comprehensive planning processes, in order to improve community resilience to climate impacts through coordinated planning, hazard assessment, and infrastructure investment decision-making. The report presents the findings of a pilot project between the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Iowa stakeholders, developed through a series of meetings and workshops.

Climate Change Impacts on Iowa 2010

This report from the Iowa Climate Change Impacts Committee documents the impacts of changing climate on Iowa during the past 50 years. The report includes an overview of potential climate change impacts to the state of Iowa and policy recommendations for responding to these threats. The report looks at potential impacts to agriculture, flora and fauna, public health, economy, infrastructure and emergency services are described thoroughly. The final chapter 'Findings on the Impacts of Climate Change in Iowa' summarizes each of these sectors, and demonstrates the most significant impacts on the state.

Iowa Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Report
2011
This report presents the findings of a pilot project initiated by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to work with stakeholders and governments in Iowa to investigate regional effects of climate change in hazard mitigation planning and other community planning processes. The primary findings and recommendations developed through this project are intended to inform federal and state agencies whose programs influence local land use and hazard mitigation planning, researchers that develop locally focused climate change information and tools, and communities trying to become more sustainable and resilient.

Climate Change Tree Atlas

The Climate Change Tree Atlas helps determine current and future suitable habitat and distribution of 134 tree species in the Eastern United States based on current climate and projected suitable habitat for the year 2100. The Atlas provides detailed information on environmental characteristics defining these distributions for each species, and can be used to develop large-scale projections of species responses to climate change. By taking current distributions of tree habitat in the U. S.

Rainscaping Iowa - Permeable Pavement Projects
2010
Rainscaping Iowa, an educational campaign that promotes urban stormwater management practices, encourages the use of permeable pavement by featuring successful installations in the state. By gathering feedback on previous projects, Rainscaping Iowa simultaneously highlights the environmental benefits of permeable surfaces and provides lessons for future installations and maintenance. Importantly, the campaign’s literature describes how permeable paving surfaces can help reduce runoff and improve water quality in the face of changing precipitation and increasing heavy rainfall events.

Iowa Code 2009, Title 11, Subtitle 4, Section 473 - Energy Development and Conservation
November 4, 2009
Following a report in December 2008 from the Iowa Climate Change Advisory Council, the Iowa Legislature requested additional information on the ramifications of climate change for the state, and enacted a new bill in 2009 (Sec. 27, Section 473.7, Code 2009 amended) requiring a climate change impacts review to be conducted and reported. The resulting report, "Climate Change Impacts on Iowa" was then produced by the Climate Council in 2010.
