Colorado Communities for Climate Action
Colorado Communities for Climate Action is a coalition of 34 local governments across the state advocating for stronger state and federal climate policy. The coalition was launched in 2017, with support from the Rocky Mountain Climate Organization. The coalition recognizes that their local government members "have a unique perspective on the threats and challenges that climate change poses" and that meeting local climate goals requires effective state and federal policy.
The coalition adopted a Policy Statement that includes promoting plans and actions to:
- Extend current authorities and provide new ones for local action.
- Set new state climate-protection goals.
- Define and implement concrete steps to meet those goals.
- Reduce carbon pollution through concrete new policies on electricity generation, energy efficiency, transportation, and waste management.
- Ensure that all of Colorado benefits from the clean energy transformation.
The coalition replaced the previous Colorado Climate Network, which was launched in 2009 and included ten local governments, the Colorado Municipal League (CML), and the Colorado Association of Ski Towns (CAST). The previous network's mission was to support efforts by local governments and allied organizations in Colorado to reduce greenhouse gases and to adapt to climate change with climate, sustainability, energy, and adaptation programs.
