Moving Towards Climate Change Adaptation: the Promise of the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative for Addressing the Region's Vulnerability to Climate Disruption

The purpose of this report is to provide an up-to-date review of the extent to which climate change is occurring in the Yellowstone to Yukon (Y2Y) region of the US and Canadian Rocky Mountains, and to assess the Yellowstone to Yukon Conservation Initiative's vision and programs as an effective response to climate disruption.

The report introduces the Y2Y Conservation Initiative's goals, details impacts of climate change in the Y2Y region, and provides scientific models of temperature and precipitation shifts predicted in the region. The chapter entitled "Science Points the Way: Best Large-Scale Management Practices for Biodiversity Conservation in the Face of Rapid Climate Change" reviews the importance of ecosystem resilience, landscape-scale conservation, and other strategic adaptation approaches. A "Climate Change Adaptation Agenda for the Y2Y Region" explains climate adaptation features inherent in the region, structural adaptation features of the Y2Y Conservation Initiative, strategies for the organization to address climate change, and other additional adaptation strategies.
