Portsmouth, New Hampshire Coastal Resilience Initiative: Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Plan

The City of Portsmouth, New Hampshire Coastal Resilience Initiative (CRI) was established to assess the potential local impacts from climate change for the state's "Seacoast" region, and to initiate adaptation planning. Prepared for the CRI by a team of researchers from the University of New Hampshire and the Rockingham Planning Commission, a detailed report provides an overview of the projected climate vulnerability of Portsmouth’s public and private assets. The report includes an assessment for climate change impacts on critical infrastructure and facilities, public health and coastal wetlands, and includes adaptive strategies for each of these sectors.

The Kresge Foundation Climate Resilience and Urban Opportunity Initiative: Evaluation Report

The Kresge Foundation established the Climate Resilience and Urban Opportunity (CRUO) initiative in 2014 to advance climate resilience by building capacity within low-income urban communities. Kresge believes that climate resilience requires a comprehensive approach which incorporates climate change mitigation, adaptation, and social cohesion. CROU offered $29 million over 5 years to 15 community-based nonprofit organizations (CBOs) across the U. S. to advance equitable climate resilience. This report reviews the impact of the initiative, outcomes and lessons learned from across the funded projects.

Case Study: Homestead Community Land Trust - King County, Washington
July 26, 2020
In Seattle and King County, Washington, the Homestead Community Land Trust (Homestead CLT) is helping to preserve existing and build new affordable housing that incorporates green design features. The CLT currently stewards 13 acres of land with more than 200 homes for low- and middle-income homeowners earning 80 percent or less of area median income (AMI). Recent projects have incorporated green design features to increase the sustainability of land trust homes. The CLT is currently building twelve “net-zero” energy townhomes in area Renton, WA near transit, which will reduce both energy and transit costs for homeowners and help the region meet greenhouse gas reduction goals.

Puget Sound Watershed Management Assistance Program
The Puget Sound is a coastal/inland waterway in Washington state, and is considered to be one of the most ecologically diverse ecosystems in North America. The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Puget Sound Watershed Management Assistance Program supports the protection and restoration of Puget Sound aquatic resources in areas threatened by development. These grants are given to local and tribal governments and special purpose districts. The grants support the development of land use management tools to manage and minimize the effects of population and economic growth on water quality and aquatic habitat.

Beyond Traffic: Trends and Choices 2045

From the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Anthony Foxx and the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), Beyond Traffic discusses the effects of climate change over the next 30 years, including global mean sea level rise, temperature increases, and more frequent and intense storm events, as impacts on highways, bridges, public transportation, coastal ports and waterways. Released in Draft format, the DOT is asking for feedback with the intention of producing a final version later in 2015.
