This Georgetown Climate Center (GCC) case study on the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative (LARC) explores how local governments and other partners are coordinating at the regional scale to address climate change in the Los Angeles metropolitan region of California. This case study describes how LARC was formed and has organized its decisionmaking, what local governments and other stakeholders are involved in the collaborative, what roles it is playing to support climate action in the region, and how the collaborative funds its activities.

Thirsty for Answers: Preparing for the Water-related Impacts of Climate Change in American Cities
August 2011
In this report the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) has compiled local and regional research findings about the water-related impacts of climate change in 12 U. S. cities. NRDC examined more than 75 scientific studies, as well as data and reports generated by government agencies and nonprofit organizations. The report makes clear that some of the most profound effects of climate change are water-related, such as sea-level rise, increased rain and storms, flooding, and drought, and that these kinds of events are likely to increase in the coming years as a result of climate change.

New York State Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy
September 2005
Congress charged each state and territory with developing a wildlife action plan, in order to receive funds through the Wildlife Conservation and Restoration Program and the State Wildlife Grants Program. These proactive plans, known technically as “comprehensive wildlife conservation strategies,” assess the health of each state’s wildlife and habitats, identify the problems they face, and outline the actions that are needed to conserve them over the long term.

One of 21 Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs) established by Secretarial Order No. 3289, which focus on on-the-ground strategic conservation efforts at the landscape level. LCCs are management-science partnerships that inform integrated resource-management actions addressing climate change and other stressors within and across landscapes, linking science and conservation. The currently participating bureaus are the Bureau of Land Management, Minerals Management Service, National Park Service, and the U.

Forest-Climate Working Group

The Forest-Climate Working Group (FCWG) is a broad and diverse coalition of forest stakeholders formed to develop consensus recommendations for U. S. forest components of federal climate legislation. The participants in the Forest-Climate Working Group — landowner, industry, conservation, wildlife, carbon finance, and forestry organizations — engaged in a year of facilitated consensus dialog to develop this policy platform. Their recommendations focus in three areas: 1) Offset Credits for Forest Carbon Activities; 2) Beyond Offsets - Incentive, Research, and Technical Assistance Programs; and 3) Forest Adaptation; which are detailed in this report.
