Maine Wildlife Action Plan
September 2015
Maine’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife prepared the state’s 2015 Wildlife Action Plan to protect Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) and to fulfil requirements established by the State Wildlife Grant program. This updated plan focuses on developing a list of 378 SGCN based on a number of factors, including vulnerability to climate change and cultural significance to tribes in Maine. The 2015 plan builds off of an earlier version, published in 2005, which helped secure funding that has supported enhanced habitat management, research, monitoring, population management, and outreach programs throughout the state.

NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service Strategy is designed to help regional fishery managers respond to climate change's effect on marine resources. The report identifies key objectives to increase production, delivery, and use of climate-related information to support the management of fish stocks, fisheries, and protected species. The Strategy outlines a clear path for NOAA Fisheries and partners to deliver the science enterprise, information and tools needed for climate-ready decision-making.

South Ironbound Resiliency Action Plan - Newark, New Jersey

The South Ironbound Resiliency Action Plan lays out resiliency goals for a portion of the Ironbound neighborhood in the East Ward of Newark, New Jersey called South Ironbound, that will inform funding priorities and inform longer term climate mitigation and adaptation goals. The neighborhood is prone to flooding due to sewer back-ups, heavy rain storms, and storm surge. The report is organized into strategic components related to resilience. For each strategy, there is an in-depth review of major actions and implementation considerations.

Resilient New Orleans: Strategic Action to Shape Our Future City

In August 2015, the City of New Orleans released its Resilient New Orleans strategy outlining the city's vision and plan for building a more equitable, adaptable, and prosperous New Orleans that will serve the next generations of residents. The strategy was developed by the City of New Orleans as part of the Rockefeller Foundation’s 100 Resilient Cities Initiative. Resilient New Orleans identifies a number of ongoing and supporting actions that the city is already taking, as well as 14 new strategies that New Orleans will implement in support of its resilience vision.

Boston Climate Preparedness Planning Initiative
August 20, 2015
The Boston Climate Preparedness Planning Initiative is a joint project of the City of Boston, the Boston Redevelopment Authority and the Boston Green Ribbon Commission. Mayor Martin J. Walsh announced on August 20, 2015 that the City of Boston has received $350,000 in funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to support the Initiative. The grant is a part of the state's Office of Coastal Zone Management's Coastal Community Resilience Grant Program.

Created by the Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science, this resource is used to create detailed land management adaptation plans customized to a user’s property. The structured process considers the potential effects of climate change on forest ecosystems and outlines conservation actions that can help prepare for changing conditions. The interactive and self-guided Workbook is compatible for a wide range of geographic locations, scales, forest types, management goals, and ownership types; it can be used by forest and natural resource managers as well as any landowner with knowledge about local ecosystems.

Model Protocols for Assessing the Impacts of Climate Change on the Built Environment under NEPA and State EIA Laws

The Sabin Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia Law School published these model protocols for government agencies assessing climate change impacts to determine categorical exclusions (CEs), and while preparing environmental assessments (EAs) and environmental impact statements (EISs). The protocols recommend a precautionary approach to assessing and disclosing impacts and suggest evaluating and disclosing climate change impacts when conducting environmental reviews, using multiple projection scenarios when assessing potential impacts of climate change, having appropriate scope and depth of analysis for the magnitude of risk of a project, and assessing climate impacts in the contexts of a future baseline, the purpose and need of a project, and the potential vulnerability of a project to climate change impacts.

Adaptation Action Areas Guidebook: A Planning Guidebook for Florida's Local Government

This Guidebook is designed for local governments of coastal communities in Florida interested in integrating Adaptation Action Areas (AAAs) into policy and operational frameworks. Adopted into the Florida Statute in 2011 through the Community Planning Act, an “Adaptation Action Area” is an optional designation within a local government comprehensive plan for areas that experience coastal flooding and sea-level rise - for the purpose of prioritizing funding for infrastructure needs and adaptation planning.

Sacramento Region Transportation Adaptation Plan and Regional Transportation Plan
August 2015
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments (SACOG) developed a high-level vulnerability assessment and adaptation plan (“Adaptation Plan”) for the region’s transportation infrastructure, and is using the plan as a framework to guide future adaptation work and inform planning for transportation investments. The initial findings from the Adaptation Plan are being incorporated into the region’s 2016 long-range transportation plan update. The Adaptation Plan looks at risks to transportation from four primary climate-related threats to the region: extreme temperature; wildfire; precipitation, runoff, and flooding; and landslides.

Adaptation to Natural Hazards and Climate Change in North Kingstown, Rhode Island
August 2015
This report was developed to help Rhode Island local governments assess vulnerabilities to natural hazards, such as sea-level rise and coastal flooding, and prepare implementable coastal adaptation strategies. Strategies derived from this process can be included in local planning documents, and used to prioritize adaptation investments through local transportation and capital improvement programs. The stepwise approach described in the report was piloted in North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and is intended to provide a model for other municipalities in the state.
