Community-Driven Climate Resilience Planning: A Framework (2015)

The Community-Driven Climate Resilience Planning framework was developed to help community-based organizations define and build climate resilience, while meaningfully engaging vulnerable and impacted communities. The framework advocates advancing democratic practices at the local and regional levels, describes the principles and practices defining this emergent field, and offers resources for community-based institutions implementing community-driven planning processes. A new version of this resource has been published.

Northern Manhattan Climate Action Plan, New York City

The Northern Manhattan Climate Action Plan (NMCA) was built by and for the residents of Northern Manhattan of New York City, New York in partnership with WE ACT for Environmental Justice. The plan addresses climate-related impacts on New York City’s most vulnerable populations by promoting environmental policies that also aim to address socioeconomic inequality. The NMCA recognizes “that issues of class, race, gender, ethnicity, and age, not simply rising sea levels and temperatures, must be mitigated and ultimately overcome.

Cape Cod Commission’s Adaptation Planning Activities for the Regional Transportation System
July 2015
The Cape Cod Commission (“Commission”) has begun to systematically consider the long-range impacts of climate change as it works to guide regional transportation- and development-planning efforts for an iconic but vulnerable area of coastal Massachusetts. The Commission is responsible for directing regional land-use policy, regulating developments whose impacts cross town boundaries, and supporting the 15 Cape Cod municipalities that make up Barnstable County with planning and technical expertise.

The City of Missoula, Montana and Climate Smart Missoula developed this plan as a guide for climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies for the community of Missoula. Expanding beyond the municipal strategies in the City’s Climate Action Plan, this “climate smart” plan outlines visions, goals, and specific activities to better and more equitably involve the entire community in climate change solutions.

Iowa Wildlife Action Plan - Securing a Future for Fish and Wildlife: A Conservation Legacy for Iowans
2015
First approved in 2006, the Iowa Wildlife Action Plan is a 25-year strategy for conservation of all wildlife in Iowa. The 2015 Update provides a comprehensive review and revision to the plan that incorporates the threat of climate change to wildlife and habitat. Appendix 21 is a summary of a climate change vulnerability assessment for Iowa wildlife, that predicted climate vulnerability for over 300 species in the state.

Town of Newmarket, New Hampshire Master Plan
July 2015
The Town of Newmarket, New Hampshire is considering the integration of climate adaptation measures into municipal programs, policies, and operations. Newmarket’s 2001 Master Plan is being updated over time, and has adopted recommendations for climate adaptation and resiliency. The introductory Vision chapter outlines ideas regarding land use and future planning activities for Newmarket in the context of year 2025. The Plan’s Future Land Use chapter includes a number of recommendations around climate resiliency, with a focus on sea level rise.

Marin County Climate Action Plan (2015 Update)
July 2015
The 2015 Marin County, California Climate Action Plan (CAP) updates the 2006 Marin County Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan. The majority of the plan focuses on mitigation, providing an update of GHG emissions in 2012, forecasts of emissions for 2020, and an assessment of actions that the County will take to further reduce emissions by 2020. In addition, Chapter 8 focuses on adaptation, providing an overview of Marin’s expected climate risks, a summary of actions-to-date, and recommended next steps.

Colorado Water Plan
2015
The Colorado Water Plan is an adaptive water management framework for the state created by the Colorado Water Conservation Board (CWCB), in collaboration with Colorado’s nine Basin Roundtables. Colorado is facing increased demand and stress on its water supply - as its population is projected to double by 2050, while climate impacts such as higher temperatures, wide precipitation variability, and earlier and faster spring runoff are occurring across the state. The Colorado Water Plan aims to establish a path toward sustainable water security for the state while balancing the needs of communities and cities, the economy, agriculture, the recreation industry, and the environment.

Greenworks Philadelphia 2015 Progress Report

In June 2015, Mayor Michael A. Nutter released the 2015 Greenworks Philadelphia Progress Report, the sixth and final summary of the work completed under the City of Philadelphia’s comprehensive sustainability plan between 2009-2015. The 2015 report includes target specific achievements over the last year, cumulative metrics and trends, work that remains in progress, and specific recommendations including a framework for an updated sustainability plan in Philadelphia in the short-term.
