Hawaiian Islands Climate Vulnerability and Adaptation Synthesis

The Pacific Islands Climate Change Cooperative (PICCC) developed the Hawaiian Islands Climate Synthesis in 2014, and partnered with EcoAdapt on the project in 2015. The goal of the project was to develop a synthesis of current and projected climate impacts as well as adaptation strategies and planning options for natural resources and ecosystems of the main Hawaiian Islands. The Synthesis presents the results of a climate impacts assessment, numerous vulnerability assessments, and adaptation strategies for every ecosystem in Hawaii.

South Platte Watershed Natural Capital Resource Assessment
2018
Led by a project team of federal and state agencies and consultants, this assessment analyzes and values the ecosystem services provided by the South Platte Watershed in Colorado, and provides data and tools to help managers prioritize investments in restoration and preservation to maintain ecosystem health. The South Platte Watershed covers 3. 8 million acres spanning from the mountains to the Denver metropolitan area and adjacent plains. The assessment process involved mapping the natural assets in the South Platte Watershed and identifying the most important assets, valuing the ecosystem services provided by those assets, and developing a decision support tool to help prioritization of restoration and conservation decisions.

FHWA Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Framework

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA's) Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Framework is a guide for use in analyzing the impacts of climate change and extreme weather on transportation infrastructure, assessing adaptation options, and modifying decisionmaking processes. The framework is designed to help identify key considerations, questions, and resources that can be used to develop and implement a climate change vulnerability assessment. The processes, lessons learned, and resources outlined in the framework are geared toward State departments of transportation (DOTs), metropolitan planning organizations (MPOs), and other agencies involved in planning, building, or maintaining the transportation system.

Assessment of the Potential Health Impacts of Climate Change in Alaska

The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Division of Public Health released this Health Impact Assessment (HIA) addressing the projected impacts of climate change on public health across the state. In addition to providing an overview of climate change predictions for Alaska, this report is the state’s first attempt to describe a wide range of potential climate impacts to human health. Along with the assessment, the report provides monitoring recommendations for health and environmental indicators, and examples of adaptation strategies for communities to address potential health impacts.

New England and Northern New York Forest Ecosystem Vulnerability Assessment and Synthesis: A Report from the New England Climate Change Response Framework Project

Led by the U. S. Forest Service (USFS)’s Northern Institute of Applied Climate Science, this assessment evaluates the climate change vulnerability of forested ecosystems in the New England region (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, northern New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont). The report summarizes the current state of forests in the region including threats and management trends, describes climate impacts as they would progress under projected future climate scenarios, and relays the results of an extensive vulnerability assessment of the region’s forests.

New Hampshire’s Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) Project
New Hampshire’s Department of Environmental Services administers the Climate Risk in the Seacoast (C-RiSe) project which is intended to provide municipalities along the Great Bay with the resources they need to assess sea level rise and storm surge flooding. The Great Bay communities that have been assessed include: Rollinsford, Dover, Madbury, Durham, Newmarket, Newfields, Exeter, Stratham, Greenland, and Newington. This project is funded through the Coastal Zone Management Act by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).

CalTrans Climate Change Vulnerability Assessment 2018 Summary Report - District 4

The California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) vulnerability assessment of California’s District 4 (9 San Francisco Bay area counties) is a result of the 2013 CalTrans report on the department’s activities and plans to address and adapt the sector to climate change. The vulnerability assessment summary report describes the impacts of climate change on California’s Highway System in District 4, and a companion Technical Report describes the processes used to identify these impacts.

Hawaii Sea Level Rise Vulnerability and Adaptation Report
December 29, 2017
Hawaii’s Sea Level Rise Vulnerability and Adaptation Report was initially mandated by the Hawaii Climate Change Adaptation Initiative (Act 83, 2014, and expanded by Act 32, 2017). This report represents the first state-wide vulnerability assessment for sea level rise (SLR) coastal hazards in Hawaii. Statewide and island specific adaptation recommendations are given to help reduce Hawaii’s exposure to sea level rise and increase coastal hazard resilience.
