This guide has been developed by companies and organizations engaged in the Partnership for Resilience and Environmental Preparedness (PREP) - a pilot partnership formed to address the risks and opportunities that climate change impacts pose to businesses and the communities on which they depend. The diverse group of companies involved in this report include Starbucks, Swiss Re, Levi Strauss, Calvert Investments, Earth Networks, Entergy and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters who worked with consulting firms including Acclimatise, Oxfam America and BSR.

Facing Our Future: Adaptive Planning for Sea Level Rise in Maui and Hawaii Counties

A partnership was established between the County of Maui, County of Hawaii, and the University of Hawaii Sea Grant Program to prepare this coastal adaptation planning report. Recommendations are outlined which are intended to provide a foundation for improving shoreline planning for coastal hazards at the local level, focusing on sea level rise. The recommendations were developed by coastal planners from the Counties of Maui and Hawaii, and are specific to issues that can be addressed within the context of the existing County regulatory frameworks.

Identifying and Overcoming Barriers to Climate Change Adaptation in San Francisco Bay: Results from Case Studies

This white paper from the California Energy Commission's California Climate Change Center, examines five case studies from the San Francisco Bay region (Hayward, San Francisco, Santa Clara and Marin Counties, and the regional adaptation process) to identify the ongoing adaptation processes, the climate adaptation barriers encountered by local government entities, and further develop a diagnostic framework for managing these barriers. Relevant data were collected through key informant interviews, public documents, observation of and/or participation in public meetings, and a statewide survey.

Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan

The City of Austin, Texas adopted the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan in 2012 and established “sustainability” as the central policy direction of the 30-year plan. Austin recognizes the impacts of climate change, and has incorporated broad climate adaptation planning goals along with many other sustainability, conservation, and green infrastructure focused strategies into this plan.

Impacts and Adaptation Options in the Gulf Coast

This report from the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) reviews observed and projected changes for the Gulf Coast regional climate hazards, as well as potential impacts and adaptation options. It specifically details the impacts from sea level rise, wetland loss and hurricanes, and further examines the risks that climate change poses to the region’s energy and fishing industries. The report concludes that climate impacts are already occurring across these sectors, and outlines adaptation measures that can be implemented, while reducing the region’s vulnerability and the costs associated with future impacts.
