Vulnerability and Consequences Adaptation Planning Scenarios (VCAPS)

Vulnerability and Consequences Adaptation Planning Scenarios (VCAPS) is a facilitated, scenario-building process that enables users to construct and display causal pathways that link climate stressors, vulnerabilities, and consequences with appropriate local adaptation options. The Social and Environmental Research Institute (SERI) has developed this participatory mediated modeling process with the initial goal of examining the support VCAPS can offer climate change adaptation planning by local decision makers from coastal communities.

The report outlines strategies to reduce Maryland's vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, including sea level rise, increased temperature and changes in precipitation within the following sectors: Human Health; Agriculture; Forest and Terrestrial Ecosystems; Bay and Aquatic Environments; Water Resources; and Population Growth and Infrastructure.

Mississippi Urban Forest Council: Terry, Mississippi Arboretum Project

Terry, Mississippi is a small town of less that 1,500 people 15 miles southwest of Jackson Mississippi that is home to two small parks. In 2011, in collaboration with the Mississippi Forestry Commission and the Mississippi Urban Forest Council, the Mayor’s Office announced an initiative to plant trees throughout the town in order to maintain its “Americana” feel. As part of this plan, the city worked to identify and inventory potential planning sites, determine which types of trees would best benefit the community, and develop a campaign to encourage citizen contribution and buyin to the project.

Iowa Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Report – Findings Related to Infrastructure

The Iowa Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience Report identifies barriers to and incentives for incorporating climate change information into local hazard mitigation and comprehensive planning processes, in order to improve community resilience to climate impacts through coordinated planning, hazard assessment, and infrastructure investment decision-making. The report presents the findings of a pilot project between the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and Iowa stakeholders, developed through a series of meetings and workshops.

Iowa Climate Change Adaptation and Resilience Report

Integrated Climate and Land Use Scenarios (ICLUS) Tools and Datasets

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Global Change Research Program's Integrated Climate and Land Use Scenarios (ICLUS) project is developing tools and scenarios which are used by climate change modelers to develop projections of future climate. As a part of the ICLUS project, Geographic Information System (GIS) tools can be used to generate scenarios of housing-density changes and calculate impervious surface cover for the U. S. The ICLUS User’s Guide accompanies the tool. This product distributes the population projections and creates land use data described in the 2009 EPA report "Land-Use Scenarios: National-Scale Housing-Density Scenarios Consistent with Climate Change Storylines.
