This report summarizes the key details of the 2016 UNFCCC Paris Agreement that affect the private sector, and outlines opportunities for businesses and investors to be a part of the global solution to address climate change. The report notes that the Paris Agreement will have both immediate and long term impacts for businesses. As States transition to a low carbon economy, businesses will be impacted by structural changes to energy, land use and urban systems. While pursuant to the Paris Agreement, States are taking action to build resilience and lower emissions in order to keep warming below 2°C, the report asserts that risks will remain and businesses will need to enhance their own climate resilience.

Australia's State of Victoria Climate Change Adaptation Plan defines Victoria's climate change action priorities for 2017-2020. The Plan sets out the Government’s strategic priorities, measures and responses for adaptation in Victoria through 2020, as required by the state's Climate Change Act 2010. Victoria defines immediate priorities to address localized climate impacts and risks, and describes methods for building partnerships for an integrated response to climate change.

This USDA report provides information and resources to help farmers prepare for and respond to the regional impacts of climate change. The report summarizes the effects of climate change on agriculture and natural resources in the Midwest and Northeast U. S. and overviews strategic options for climate adaptation in agriculture. The USDA provides new resources to bring climate change planning to the farm - including adaptation strategies and approaches, an adaptation workbook, and examples for assessing and planning.

The Sustainability Plan for San Antonio, Texas (SA Tomorrow) addresses the three pillars of sustainability - economic, environmental, and social - and offers a roadmap for both the community and the municipal government to achieving sustainability in San Antonio. SA Tomorrow includes seven “Focus Areas” that were assessed for current conditions and vulnerabilities: Energy, Food System, Green Buildings and Infrastructure, Land Use and Transportation, Natural Resources, Public Health, and Solid Waste Resources.

Sonoma County, California developed their Climate Action 2020 and Beyond plan primarily to address greenhouse gas mitigation opportunities for the county, but also to initiate adaptation planning. A chapter of the report focused on climate change adaptation is offered as the Climate Readiness Plan. This plan provides a vulnerability assessment that evaluates climate impacts on three key community resource areas - people and social systems, built systems, and natural and working lands. This chapter also discusses adaptation solutions already underway in Sonoma, and provides general adaptation goals and strategies as a starting point for the County to respond to the impacts identified through the vulnerability assessment.

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has launched the New York Climate Change Science Clearinghouse - a website for climate-related information including flood maps, data on sea level and temperature changes, and other information to aid in planning for future extreme weather events. Developed by New York State in partnership with federal, university and public-private organizations, the Clearinghouse provides access to more than 1,000 maps, data sets, and documents that show the impacts of climate change on infrastructure, transportation, energy, water resources, ecosystems, agriculture and public health.

The Yakama Nation recognizes that climate change is a threat to future generations, tribal culture and way of life. This adaptation plan identifies important natural and cultural resources’ vulnerability to climate change, current tribal work that will help reduce local climate impacts, and specific recommendations for priority risk assessments and adaptation strategies for the Yakama tribes and reservation lands in the Yakama River basin of Washington state. Along with the assessment, the Yakama Nation Tribal Council directed programs to prepare and present recommendations for addressing climate vulnerabilities and risks and rebuild resilience.

The U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Building Blocks for Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry initiative is the Department's framework for helping farmers, ranchers, and forest land owners respond to climate change. The effort involves voluntary, incentive-based conservation, resilience planning, resource conservation, and energy programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase carbon sequestration, and expand renewable energy production in the agricultural and forestry sectors. In this report USDA published the results of case studies that demonstrate exemplary climate smart agriculture and forestry practices for each of the ten “building blocks:”

This plan provides a framework and recommendations for how Sonoma County, California should approach climate resilience. It emphasizes the importance of establishing a strong decision-making process which incorporates climate concerns into decisions at every level of the community. In addition to outlining adaptation goals, the Sonoma County plan also organizes its recommended actions by what type of actor is best placed to achieve them. The plan covers five categories of actors: individuals and households, businesses, government, working land managers, and civil society.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes (CSKT) Climate Change Strategic Plan is an initial effort to identify climate adaptation strategies by drawing on the expertise of the Tribes’ administration, elders, scientific leaders, and other stakeholders. The confederated tribes currently reside in the Flathead Reservation in Montana, although their territories were originally located in what is now western Montana, northern Idaho, and parts of southern Canada. The plan is particularly concerned with the preservation of the tribe’s natural and cultural resources.
