Maryland uses its Coastal Zone Management grant funding from NOAA to help local governments plan for an implement projects to adapt to the impacts of climate change. Historically, Maryland Department of Natural Resources allocated funds only to coastal communities because the grants were funded through NOAA's Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management. However, in the 2016 and 2017 grant years, DNR combined NOAA funds with funding from the Environmental Protection Agency to also make grants to green infrastructure projects to address stormwater flooding outside of the coastal zone.

Shore Up Connecticut (previously the Shoreline Resiliency Fund) is a low-interest loan program to provide financing to retrofit structures to be more resilient to impacts from flooding and extreme storms. The program was designed to provide financial assistance for flood-resilience retrofits for property owners that were not eligible for federal disaster aid after Sandy. Both home and business owners are eligible for loans under the program. In announcing the program, Governor Malloy noted that it would help residents prepare for and adapt to the changing environment.

In August 2013, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie authorized $1. 28 billion in state financing for critical improvements to drinking water and wastewater infrastructure projects across the state under S2815. The funding includes $355 million that will protect and provide resiliency to infrastructure directly impacted by Superstorm Sandy. The bipartisan supported legislation establishes a three year program that could allocate up to $5 billion, not only to repair the plants, but also to harden them against future extreme weather events.

The U.S. Department of the Interior's Hurricane Sandy Coastal Resiliency Competitive Grant Program is supporting projects that reduce communities’ vulnerability to the growing risks from coastal storms, sea level rise, flooding, erosion and associated threats through strengthening natural ecosystems that also benefit fish and wildlife. The program is funded by the 2013 Hurricane Disaster Relief Appropriations Act.

In a one-time competition, the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) encouraged Sandy-affected communities to rebuild with climate change in mind through the Rebuild by Design competition. Rebuild by Design was a unique design competition that was initiated in 2013 by the Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding Task Force and HUD. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Sea Grant Program promoted a national competition to fund technical assistance projects as part of an overall plan to enhance climate adaptation in coastal communities. NOAA Sea Grant made $1,000,000 available to fund coastal climate adaptation efforts for FY 2012-2013.

The Coastal Conservancy’s Climate Ready program focuses on protecting important coastal resources and habitats from the current and future impacts of climate change, along the California coast and within the San Francisco Bay. The 'Guidance for Addressing Climate Change in California Coastal Conservancy Projects' provides grantees and Conservancy staff clarification, information and resources to assist in understanding and applying the Conservancy’s adopted Climate Change Policy and Project Selection Criteria.

The Alaska Climate Change Impact Mitigation Program (ACCIMP) was established by Alaska's 25th Legislature to increase community resilience to climate-related natural hazards. ACCIMP is addressing the immediate planning needs of communities imminently threatened by the impacts of climate-related natural hazards such as erosion, flooding, storm surge, and thawing permafrost.

The Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management (CZM) Coastal Community Resilience Grants Program provides municipalities with financial and technical resources to advance innovative local efforts to plan for and adapt to coastal climate impacts, including sea level rise, storm surge and flooding. In 2018, more than $3. 2 million in funding was awarded to Braintree, Chatham, Chelsea and Everett, Dennis, Duxbury Beach Reservation, Inc. , Gloucester, Hull, Ipswich, Kingston, Marion, Mattapoisett, Nantucket, Provincetown, Salem, Wareham and Winthrop.

The Coastal Partnership Initiative (CPI) makes funding available to Florida's coastal counties and municipalities that are required to have a coastal management element in their comprehensive plan. Public colleges and universities, regional planning councils, national estuary programs and nonprofit groups may also apply for CPI funds if an eligible local government agrees to participate as a partner. The Initiative is administered by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) using funding from NOAA.
