In June 2015, Rhode Island House Resolution 5478 created an 11 member special legislative commission whose purpose was to study and make recommendations concerning the economic risks relating to and resulting from sea rise and flooding in the state. The Commission expired and disbanded on February 6, 2016 after reporting back their findings and recommendations to the House of Representatives.

The U. S. Department of the Interior (DOI) is directing the Wildland Fire Resilient Landscapes Program. The FY 2015 President's Budget request included funding to establish a new "Resilient Landscapes" activity to improve the integrity and resilience of forests and rangelands by restoring natural vegetation landscapes to specific conditions and maintain fire resiliency. Subsequently, as a pilot initiative, Congress provided $10 million in the FY2015 Fuels Management program to fund resilient landscape activities.

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, in partnership with Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources, announced $727,500 in 2015 grants to be awarded to 15 organizations through the Green Streets, Green Towns, Green Jobs Grant Initiative (G3 Grant Program). The G3 program was piloted in the Chesapeake Bay area in 2011 to encourage local jurisdictions to use “green” techniques when pursuing necessary “gray” infrastructure projects. Its purpose is to improve local, grassroots-level greening efforts by towns and communities in urbanized watersheds that reduce stormwater runoff through the creation of “green streets,” the increase in urban green spaces, and the reduction of impervious surfaces.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a new environmental justice (EJ) mapping and screening tool called EJSCREEN. EJSCREEN allows users to access high-resolution environmental and demographic information for locations in the United States, and compare their selected locations to the rest of the state, EPA region, or the nation.

In June 2015, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced Great Lakes Restoration Initiative (GLRI) Shoreline Cities grants totaling more than more than $1.8 million to fund green infrastructure projects to improve water quality in 11 cities across the Great Lakes Basin.

In order to characterize and locate frontline communities in New Jersey, this study examines the demographic and geographic attributes of socially-vulnerable groups and their exposure to flooding (the cause of nearly all past presidential declarations in the state). The research revealed that a disproportionate number of highly socially-vulnerable census tracts are located in flood hazard areas.

In May 2015, the Maryland legislature passed legislation (HB0514/SB0258) codifying the Maryland Commission on Climate Change. The Commission is charged with advising the Governor and General Assembly on ways to mitigate the causes of, prepare for, and adapt to the consequences of climate change. The measure requires the Commission to establish specified working groups and for the Commission members and working group members to be appointed and the Commission to be convened on or before July 1, 2016.
