A Framework for Climate Change Adaptation in Hawaii
This document is a collaborative effort of the state's Ocean Resources Management Plan (OMRP) Working Group with the assistance of the University of Hawaii Center for Island Climate Adaptation and Policy.
The OMRP Working Group developed this framework after recognizing the state lacked adaptation planning guidelines. The purpose of this document is to encourage and facilitate collaboration among agencies at state, local and federal levels, as well as with policy makers, businesses, and community partners, to plan ahead for the impacts of climate change.
Suggested actions discussed include: building a climate change adaptation team, developing and adopting a long-term vision, identifying planning areas relevant to climate change, scoping climate change impacts to major sectors, conducting a vulnerability assessment, and conducting a risk assessment.
