Oakland Community Climate Action Guide

Developed by the Oakland Climate Action Coalition, this online interactive guide is intended to connect residents of Oakland, California with the information and resources that they need to take personal action to address and prepare for climate change impacts, starting at home. The guide focuses on everyday actions that residents can take before and in the midst of coastal flooding, extreme heat, wildfire, rising utility prices, poor air quality, and more. The guide also includes local sources of information and support to help residents take next steps towards preparedness.

The guide is organized according to the following issues and explains the potential impacts of climate change on each:

  • Adaptation & Resilience
  • Food Justice
  • Renewable Energy & Energy Savings
  • Transportation & Land Use
  • Infrastructure

For example, the electricity system can be threatened by increased demand during heat waves and disruption due to water shortages, higher water temperatures, and fires that destroy transmission lines. In order to combat increased electricity prices and frequent power outages, the guide offers steps to achieve renewable energy and greater efficiency.
