California State Wildlife Action Plan 2015 Update

California’s 2015 State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP 2015) is a comprehensive, statewide plan for conserving the state’s fish and wildlife and their natural habitats. The Plan identifies and prioritizes at-risk species and habitats across the state, and provides conservation strategies to help protect and conserve these species. The first update of California’s 2005 SWAP integrates climate change impacts and adaptation planning. The updated SWAP analyzes the impacts of climate change on ecosystems, uses climate change vulnerability as a criterion for the most vulnerable target species, and offers conservation strategies that address impacts of climate change.

Cumberland County, North Carolina, Climate Resiliency Plan
February 2016
The Cumberland County Climate Resiliency Plan outlines the priority climate impacts the County faces, observed and projected climate trends, and a Strategic Action Plan. The report presents existing climate and non-climate related conditions of concern; four climate risks that are currently serious threats to the County including heat waves, severe weather events, heavy precipitation events, and prolonged droughts; and the priority impacts associated with each climate risk. In 2015, the Model Forest Policy Program, the Cumberland River Compact, and Sustainable Sandhills worked together to facilitate a climate adaptation planning process and develop this Climate Resiliency Plan for Cumberland County, North Carolina.

California Drought Contingency Plan
January 15, 2016
The 2016 California Drought Contingency Plan (DCP), released by the Department of Water Resources, outlines potential Central Valley Project (CVP) and State Water Project (SWP) contractors water operations for February through November 2016. The DCP is a planning and implementation document that identifies strategies and actions state agencies should take to prepare for and respond to future droughts or other water shortage events. This state report demonstrates that conservation and preparedness will be essential to future water management in California.

New Jersey Energy Master Plan - Update
December 2015
In 2015 New Jersey updated its Energy Master Plan (EMP) to include a section on resiliency. The update describes how New Jersey has advanced on the 2011 Plan’s Five Overarching Goals and Plan of Action, and provides new strategies and goals for the energy sector. This EMP Update has increased priority on improving the resiliency of energy infrastructure to respond to and recover from severe weather events.

NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy Regional Action Plans
December 2016
NOAA Fisheries and its partners have developed six Regional Action Plans to guide implementation of the NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy for each region (Northeast, Southeast, Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, Western, Pacific Islands). The regional plans identify the priority actions that NOAA Fisheries and affiliated agencies plan to take over the next five years to implement the seven objectives of the Strategy. The actions are focused on tracking changing conditions including climate impacts, and identifying the best strategies to reduce impacts and sustain marine resources.

California Water Action Plan - 2016 Update

In response to an extended and extreme period of drought across the state, the California Water Action Plan was first released by the administration of Governor Brown in January 2014 to provide a framework for implementing sustainable water management practices over five years (2014‐2019). The actions described in the plan will support sustainable water management in California by providing a more reliable water supply for farms and communities, restoring important wildlife habitat and species, and helping the state’s water systems and environment become more resilient to climate change.

Prepared by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) economists, the Community Resilience Economic Decision Guide for Buildings and Infrastructure Systems provides a standard economic methodology for evaluating investment decisions aimed to improve the ability of communities to adapt to, withstand, and quickly recover from disasters. The economic guide provides a process for considering alternate methods for increasing community resilience through cost-effective investments in the built environment and other infrastructure systems.

RainReady Midlothian Plan (Chicago suburb flood management plan)
January 2016
The Village of Midlothian - a suburb of Chicago, Illinois - has faced repetitive and severe flooding for decades. Residents are affected both by overbank flooding from nearby creeks and from overland flooding as a result of urban runoff from impervious surfaces. The Center for Neighborhood Technology worked with the Village of Midlothian, the community group Floodlothian Midlothian, and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers to create the RainReady Midlothian Plan that was adopted in January 2016.

Tidewater Rising Resiliency Design Challenge
January 2016
Wetlands Watch, Hampton University, and Old Dominion University collaborated to develop flooding resiliency designs for Chesterfield Heights, a neighborhood in Norfolk, VA. The Norfolk region has been named the 10th most at risk from sea level rise of the world’s port cities by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. This design proposal emphasizes adaptation solutions that protect the region’s coastal ecosystems, as well as conducting flooding and sea level rise adaptation at the street and parcel level.

Pennsylvania Disaster Planning for Historic Properties Initiative
2014-2018
In 2014, Pennsylvania was awarded $1. 5 million from the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act to help stabilize or repair historic properties damaged by Hurricane Sandy, and undertake disaster-related planning initiatives. The funding enabled the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office to assist select counties and the City of Philadelphia with prioritizing their communities’ historic properties and build protective measures into hazard mitigation plans for historic property considerations.
