Guidelines for Considering Traditional Knowledges in Climate Change Initiatives
September 2014
These guidelines recommend ethical conduct practices for dealing with traditional knowledges (TKs) of indigenous peoples. The guidelines revolve around the two principles of “Cause No Harm” and “Free, Prior, and Informed Consent.” The purpose of the guidelines is to create mutually beneficial interactions between tribes and non-tribal partners that respect the cultural and economic values of indigenous peoples.

Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative’s (BARHII) Climate Change Quick Guides
June 2014
To build the capacity of local health departments, the Bay Area Regional Health Inequities Initiative (BARHII) Built Environment Committee (BEC) developed five short (2 page) Climate Change Quick Guides that summarize the intersections between and importance of action on climate change, public health and equity. The guides help readers understand how climate change will affect public health, the environmental and public health benefits of climate change actions, how public health departments can participate in climate action planning, and action items that public health departments can take to support climate adaptation efforts at all levels of government.

White House Climate Data Initiative

On March 19, 2014 the White House announced the creation of a climate change data center, Climate.Data.Gov. Driven by NOAA and NASA, the new site brings together data from across several federal agencies, with the intention of helping to inform and prepare America’s communities, businesses, and citizens.

Prince George's County, Maryland - Clean Water Partnership Youth Engagement Program
January 2014
The Clean Water Partnership (CWP) was established in 2014 between Prince George’s County, Maryland, and a private company, Corvias, to retrofit 2,000 acres to facilitate better, more resilient stormwater management. A significant component of the CWP - which has been extended 30 more years and to 4,000 more acres - is educating the community on resilient infrastructure and environmental literacy. Much of this engagement and education centers around the youth of Prince George’s County. Several programs, including the Junior Achievement Finance Park and End Time Harvest Ministries, have established training, internship, and educational programs for students throughout the school district.

Farming in a Changing Climate
The State of Maryland predicts growing economic uncertainty in agriculture, the state’s largest commercial industry, due to climate change. Published by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, this brochure summarizes climate change related risks for the agriculture sector and potential adaptation strategies. For example, increased temperatures and precipitation variability could translate into greater production costs, as farmers may require additional water for irrigation, or more frequent pest treatments.
