Integrated Strategies for a Vibrant and Sustainable Fresno County, California

This ClimateWise report provides climate change adaptation strategies that were developed by local leaders and experts in Fresno County, California, during a series of workshops in 2009-2010. Workshop participants considered both climate change impacts and local vulnerabilities while developing a suite of recommendations for increasing local resilience across sectors and communities. These recommendations are focused on socioeconomic systems including health and emergency preparedness, agriculture, and water resources and infrastructure, as well as species and ecosystems specifically within freshwater aquatic and riparian, woodlands and forests, and valley floor grasslands and semi-desert ecosystems.

Degrees of Risk: Defining a Risk Management Framework For Climate Security

The implications of current security analysis are clear: unless climate change is limited to levels where its impacts can be managed effectively, and unless successful adaptation programs are implemented, there will be major threats to national and international security. This report addresses the need for countries to develop a comprehensive risk management approach to climate change.

Pennsylvania Climate Adaptation Planning Report: Risks and Practical Recommendations

The Value of Green Infrastructure: A Guide to Recognizing Its Economic, Environmental and Social Benefits

From the Center for Neighborhood Technology, this guide outlines a framework for measuring and valuing the ecological, economic and social benefits of green infrastructure (GI). The value of Green Roofs, Tree Planting, Bioretention and Infiltration, Permeable Pavement, and Water Harvesting practices are detailed. The goals of the report are to inform decision-makers and planners about the multiple benefits green infrastructure offers communities; and to guide communities in quantifying the benefits of green infrastructure investments.

Minnesota Water Sustainability Framework

A result of funding from passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Act in 2008, the Minnesota state legislature directed the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center to construct a 25-year water sustainability framework that describes the primary issues that must be addressed to achieve sustainable water use and recommendations for what the state should do to address those issues.

Climate Ready Water Utilities: Final Report of the National Drinking Water Advisory Council

This Climate Ready Water Utilities (CRWU) report contains recommendations to assist drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater systems across the nation to increase their resilience to climate change impacts. EPA convened a CRWU Working Group under the National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC) in 2009, and the CRWU Report was delivered to EPA in January 2011. The general premise is that climate change represents an important challenge for drinking water and wastewater utilities and should be considered in all aspects of utility planning.

Considering Climate Change in Florida’s State Wildlife Action Planning: A Spatial Resilience Planning Approach

Conducted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and commissioned by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), this study piloted a new approach to incorporating climate change into wildlife conservation planning through a "spatial resilience planning" method. The method was tested, and recommendations developed, through a series of workshops with Florida species experts and wildlife managers that focused first on revising impact assessments for each species. Priority management actions and spatially specific planning options were then developed for each species under various climate change scenarios.

Boulder, Colorado Greenways Master Plan
2011
The City of Boulder's 2011 Greenways Master Plan creates a stewardship plan for the city's riparian areas along Boulder Creek and its 14 tributaries. Although the plan does not explicitly consider climate change, it provides a useful example for how cities can coordinate management of natural resources and recreational amenities across city agencies and using multiple sources of funding. The purpose of Greenways was to integrate multiple management objectives for riparian areas including protecting habitat, managing water quality, managing flooding and stormwater, and creating and enhancing trails and recreational amenities.

Post-Disaster Redevelopment Planning: Addressing Adaptation During Long-Term Recovery

This report provides guidance to Florida communities on how to incorporate adaptation measures to address sea-level rise impacts into post-disaster redevelopment plans. Developed by the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity and Division of Emergency Management, “Addressing Adaptation During Long-Term Recovery” is an addendum to Florida’s Post-Disaster Redevelopment Planning Guidebook. The Addendum was developed as part of Florida’s Statewide Post-Disaster Redevelopment Planning Initiative that began in 2007 to provide a process and guidelines to help ensure resilient redevelopment of local communities.
