A Framework for Categorizing the Relative Vulnerability of Threatened and Endangered Species to Climate Change (External Review Draft)

The framework presented in this report may be used to categorize the relative vulnerability of species to climate change. There are four modules that compose this framework. These modules walk the user through a systematic process for (1) categorizing a species’ baseline vulnerability to extinction or major population reduction, (2) categorizing a species’ vulnerability to future climate change, (3) developing a matrix that provides an overall score of the species’ vulnerability to non-climate and climate change stressors, and (4) qualitatively determining the uncertainty in the estimate of a species’ vulnerability.

Prince Edward Island and Climate Change: A Strategy for Reducing the Impacts of Global Warming

As an island with a highly erodible sandstone bedrock, a sandy shoreline with many estuaries and marshes, and the ongoing submergence of its coast, Prince Edward Island has been identified as one of the areas most vulnerable to sea level rise in Canada. This strategy from the Government of Prince Edward Island presents the current and projected climate change impacts on the island, while delineating mitigation measures across many sectors, as well as general adaptation strategies.

Sea Level Rise: Technical Guidance for Dorchester County, Maryland

This report describes Dorchester County's vulnerability to sea-level rise and specific policy response options. Are We Ready? Preparing for the Public Health Challenges of Climate Change
2008
In order to better understand the current state of preparedness for the health effects of climate change, the Environmental Defense Fund collaborated with the National Association of City and County Health Officials (NACCHO) and George Mason University to conduct a survey of local health departments from around the country. The survey asked respondents to discuss their perception of climate-related health risks and the status and adequacy of their departments' activities in response to these risks.

TreeFlow
TreeFlow is an online resource for tree-ring reconstructions of stream flow and climate. By providing a longer window into the past, tree-ring reconstructions describe the natural variability of climate (precipitation, drought) more completely than gaged records. While projected changes in precipitation may be uncertain in some area, projections for temperature changes due to climate change are highly useful and relevant when added to the range of natural flow variability seen in the reconstructions.

California Sea Grant sponsors marine research, extension services, and education activities to support the management, conservation, and enhancement of coastal resources. The California Sea Grant Extension Program is responding more frequently to questions about how climate change might impact the California coastal environment. Climate Change Collaboration in the Pacific Northwest (C3)
C3 is a regional forum of agency and science center climate change coordinators and leaders, representing federal and regional efforts in the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon and Idaho). The forum provides information exchange and enhances collaboration across several Departmental efforts, science centers and agencies at a broad scale, helping to bridge each organizations’ connection to the multiple efforts that are underway. These efforts include federal agencies’ research and management activities, the DOI Climate Science Center, three Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs) in the Pacific Northwest, the NOAA-funded (RISA) Climate Decision Support Consortium (CDSC), and the numerous other programs and activities of the universities in the Pacific Northwest.

Oregon Coastal Management Program (OCMP)
Oregon's Coastal Management Program (OCMP) is the combined effort of 32 cities, seven counties, and a host of state agencies to carry out the statewide land use program on the Oregon coast. All Statewide Planning Goals apply to the coast, but the OCMP emphasizes estuarine resources, coastal shorelands, beaches and dunes, and ocean resources. The mission of the OCMP is to work in partnership with coastal local governments, state and federal agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure that Oregon's coastal and ocean resources are managed, conserved, and developed consistent with statewide planning goals.

The Pacific Northwest Climate Impacts Research Consortium (CIRC), formerly the Pacific Northwest Climate Decision Support Consortium (CDSC), provides information and tools to support decision making about landscape and watershed management in the region in a changing climate. It is a member of NOAA's Regional Integrated Sciences and Assessments (RISA) program, which supports climate research for decision-makers and policy planners at a regional level, representing Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
