The California Energy Commission’s Public Interest Energy Research (PIER) Program established the California Climate Change Center (CCCC) in 2003 to document climate change research relevant to the state. The Center was the first state-funded climate change research program in the nation. Its goal was to enhance national and international studies, generating new information that can be used to shape California’s climate change policy. This center operated as a virtual organization with core research activities at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of California, San Diego, complemented by efforts at other research institutions.

The Climate Justice Alliance (CJA) is a collaborative of more than 35 community-based and movement support organizations uniting frontline communities to forge a scalable and socio-economically just transition away from an extractive economy towards local living economies to address the root causes of climate change. CJA is rooted in Indigenous, African American, Latino, Asian Pacific Islander, and working-class white communities throughout the US. CJA seeks to strengthen relationships between community-based organizations, environmentalists, labor unions, food sovereignty/sustainable agriculture groups, and other sectors of society.

The Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES), the nation’s first research station of its kind, was founded in 1875 to leverage scientific knowledge related to environmental quality, plants, agricultural production, and human health for the good of society. The small separate state agency has a history of economically and scientifically important discoveries and currently conducts research at four facilities, which include laboratories and farms. CAES supports Connecticut's agricultural producers through education and research on climate impacts.

LCCs are management-science partnerships that inform integrated resource-management actions addressing climate change and other stressors within and across landscapes, linking science and conservation delivery.

East Michigan Environmental Action Council (EMEAC) began as a response in the 1960s to environmental concerns in southeast Michigan. EMEAC seeks to fight environmental racism and fossil fuel dependence, while building community solutions and resilience inside Detroit. Its programs focus on climate justice, youth leadership, public commons, political education and organizing, and just economic transition. Community resilience projects focus on topics such as urban agriculture, youth leadership from frontline communities, and renewable energy.

The Eastern Shore Land Conservancy (ESLC) in Maryland has been an active partner in helping rural communities on the Eastern Shore of Maryland adapt to rising sea levels and more intense heavy rainfall events. Maryland’s Eastern Shore along the Chesapeake Bay is one of the most vulnerable regions in the country to future sea-level rise. ESLC is supporting sea-level rise adaptation through strategic land acquisitions to conserve wetlands and natural flood buffers that protect development and agriculture.
