Minnesota Water Sustainability Framework

January 15, 2011

A result of funding from passage of the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Act in 2008, the Minnesota state legislature directed the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center to construct a 25-year water sustainability framework that describes the primary issues that must be addressed to achieve sustainable water use and recommendations for what the state should do to address those issues.

Comprehensive Strategy for Reducing Maryland's Vulnerability to Climate Change - Phase II: Building societal, economic, and ecological resilience

January 2011

The Maryland Commission on Climate Change released its Phase II Strategy for Reducing Maryland’s Vulnerability to Climate Change on January 24, 2011. The report outlines strategies to reduce Maryland's vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, including sea level rise, increased temperature and changes in precipitation within the following sectors: Human Health; Agriculture; Forest and Terrestrial Ecosystems; Bay and Aquatic Environments; Water Resources; and Population Growth and Infrastructure.

Colorado Climate Preparedness Project: Final Report

2011

The Colorado Climate Preparedness Project (CCPP) was initiated to to assist Colorado in preparing for climate change by providing a catalog of climate vulnerabilities and current adaptation activities in the state. The report catalogues impacts, adaptation activities, and adaptation options across a range of sectors: water; wildlife, ecosystems and forests; electricity; agriculture; and outdoor activities. The team used existing studies of climate impacts and interviewed experts in the field.

Forest and Water Climate Adaptation: A Plan for Whatcom County, Washington

December 2010

The Model Forest Policy Program, the Cumberland River Compact, and the Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association (NSEA) developed a Climate Adaptation Plan for Whatcom County, Washington, with a focus on resiliency and adaptability of ecosystems in the county and Nooksack River basin. Assessments were conducted on the county’s water, forest, and economic resources, current climate, and potential future climate impacts. The assessments informed a risk analysis that identified Whatcom County’s most vulnerable sectors.

The Oregon Climate Change Adaptation Framework

December 2010

Oregon's Climate Change Adaptation Framework is the result of a collaborative effort between Oregon's state agencies with support from the Oregon Climate Change Research Institute. This report provides a framework for the continued development of strategies and plans to address future climate conditions in the state. Priority climate risks and their respective impacts on key sectors are outlined, followed by over 100 adaptation strategies for near- and long-term planning and implementation.   This framework identifies 11 key risks that are likely to occur.

New York State Climate Action Plan Interim Report

2010

Executive Order 24 signed by Governor Patterson in August 2009 created the New York Climate Action Council and charged it with creating a Climate Action Plan. This 428 page Interim Report was released in November 2010, indicating the teams are still moving forward on the final plan. Chapter 11 covers the work effort of the Adaptation Technical Working Groups in 8 sectors: Agriculture, Coastal Zones, Ecosystems, Energy, Public Health, Transportation, Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure, and Water.

Integrated Climate Change Adaptation Planning in San Luis Obispo County, California

November 2010

This report presents climate adaptation strategies for San Luis Obispo County (SLO) with a focus on increasing the resilience of both human and natural communities. The report reflects the collective efforts of many people in SLO, including elected leaders, county planners, land managers, public health officials, concerned citizens, and others who attended four workshops in 2009 - 2010.   These meetings were held to discuss the threat of climate change to the community and establish some initial strategies to reduce vulnerability.

Swinomish Climate Change Initiative: Climate Adaptation Action Plan

October 2010

The ultimate goal of the Swinomish Climate Change Initiative of the Swinomish Tribal Community was to develop an action plan for the adaptation and mitigation of potential risks and impacts of climate change. Under the guidance and coordination of the Swinomish Office of Planning and Community Development, the first year of the Initiative was devoted to the assessment of projected impacts, as presented in an Impact Assessment Technical Report issued in the fall of 2009. The second year of the project was focused on the evaluation of strategies and options for recommended actions to counter identified impacts, which resulted in the preparation and release of this report.

People and Nature Adapting to a Changing Climate: Charting Maine's Course

February 2010

In this report called for by the Maine Legislature, the state puts forth options for responding to the impacts of climate change.  The plan relies on the 2009 impact assessment report entitled Maine’s Climate Future: An Initial Assessment developed by the University of Maine.  The Department of Environmental Protection developed this plan through a stakeholder-based process to evaluate options and actions available to state businesses and people to prepare for “the most likely” impacts of climate change.

Alaska's Climate Change Strategy: Addressing Impacts in Alaska

January 2010

The Adaptation Advisory Group (AAG) to the Alaska Climate Change Sub-Cabinet created this adaptation response plan as part of Alaska's overall climate change strategy, which also addresses mitigation and research needs, and includes a special Immediate Action Workgroup report.  For more information, "Alaska's IAWG 2008 and 2009 Final Report(s): Recommendations Report to the Governor's Sub-Cabinet on Climate Change" are reviewed in this clearinghouse as well.
