Oakland Community Climate Action Guide

December 2014

Developed by the Oakland Climate Action Coalition, this online interactive guide is intended to connect residents of Oakland, California with the information and resources that they need to take personal action to address and prepare for climate change impacts, starting at home. The guide focuses on everyday actions that residents can take before and in the midst of coastal flooding, extreme heat, wildfire, rising utility prices, poor air quality, and more. The guide also includes local sources of information and support to help residents take next steps towards preparedness.

U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit

The U. S. Climate Resilience Toolkit, as called for in President Obama’s Climate Action Plan, is a website developed by a partnership of federal agencies and organizations led by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The Toolkit will enable decision-makers to take action to improve their climate resilience using data-driven tools, information, and subject-matter expertise. The comprehensive site is designed to serve interested citizens, communities, businesses, resource managers, planners, and policy leaders at all levels of government.

President's State, Local and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience: Recommendations to the President

November 17, 2014

As part of his Climate Action Plan, in November 2013, President Obama issued Executive Order 13653 - 'Preparing the United States for the Impacts of Climate Change,' creating The State, Local, and Tribal Leaders Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. The Task Force was directed to advise the Administration on how the Federal Government can respond to the needs of communities nationwide in achieving climate change resilience. The Task Force members, which include governors, mayors, county officials, and Tribal leaders from across the country, met throughout the year and used their first-hand experiences in building climate preparedness and resilience in their communities to inform their recommendations to the Administration.

California Proposition 1 - Water Quality, Supply and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014, Water Bond

November 14, 2014

Proposition 1 - the Water Quality, Supply and Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2014 - is a $7.545 billion general obligation bond measure approved by California voters on Nov. 4, 2014 ballot. The measure will provide funding for needed investments as part of a statewide, comprehensive water plan for California. In part, the Act was passed to help the state address the drought and the impacts of climate change on water supplies and ecosystems.

Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative

November 4, 2014

The Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative, Amendment 1, approved on November 4, 2014, dedicates state funds to acquire and restore Florida conservation and recreation lands. The measure is designed to dedicate 33 percent of net revenue from the existing excise tax to fund the Land Acquisition Trust Fund.

New York Community Risk and Resiliency Act (S06617B)

September 22, 2014

New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signed into law the Community Risk and Resiliency Act on September 22, 2014. The legislation requires the impacts of extreme weather – such as storm surge, sea-level rise, and flooding – to be considered in some state permitting and funding decisions. The Act advances a number of important recommendations of the NYS 2100 Commission, which the Governor convened after Superstorm Sandy to develop more resilient infrastructure systems across the state.
