Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Resilience Strategy

March 2017

The City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania released its Resilience Strategy in March 2017 to provide a holistic strategy for helping the city to manage challenges from a changing environment, globalization, and urbanization. The Strategy sets goals, objectives, and action organized around a “P4” community-centered framework addressing resilience in terms of People, Place, Planet, and Performance.   The Strategy is intended to be a blueprint to help the city prepare for resilience challenges by helping the city improve coordination among government and non-governmental organizations, improve budgeting and capital coordination citywide, ensure the institutionalization of resilience practices, and increase resident engagement and empowerment.

A Roadmap for Climate Resilience in Sonoma County, California

April 2016

This plan provides a framework and recommendations for how Sonoma County, California should approach climate resilience. It emphasizes the importance of establishing a strong decision-making process which incorporates climate concerns into decisions at every level of the community. In addition to outlining adaptation goals, the Sonoma County plan also organizes its recommended actions by what type of actor is best placed to achieve them. The plan covers five categories of actors: individuals and households, businesses, government, working land managers, and civil society.

Greater Boston, Massachusetts Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy

January 2015

The Metropolitan Area Planning Council of Boston (MAPC) released their Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) in 2015, which aims to direct economic development throughout the region until 2020. While the Strategy describes dozens of action items to increase economic resilience, one of the priorities is to address the impacts that climate change will have on Boston’s economy, especially on vulnerable, under-represented communities. The Strategy establishes several goals to increase the City’s economic resilience in the face of climate change and support these frontline communities, including for income inequality within the region to decrease, and that the Metro Area grow a strong supply of skilled and educated workers. In order to achieve these goals, the CEDS recommends several economic development and climate resilience actions to be implemented by policymakers, business owners, local colleges, and more.

Climate Change & Aspen: An Update on Impacts to Guide Resiliency Planning & Stakeholder Engagement

December 2014

This report, adopted by the City of Aspen, is an update to the City's climate change impact assessment adopted in 2006. The report details the range of impacts that the City is likely to experience as a result of climate change, including: longer summertime warm periods, earlier spring snowmelt, more precipitation as rain and not snow, longer dry periods, and increased frequency of heavy downpour events. These changes are anticipated to increase wildfire risk, put increased pressure on water supply, and economically impact ski resorts and other winter and summer time recreational businesses. The report also details adaptation strategies for each of six key sectors.

Heartland 2060 - Building a Resilient Region Plan (Central Florida)

2014

Florida’s “Heartland” encompasses seven counties in Central Florida, including Polk, Hardee, Highlands, DeSoto, Okeechobee, Glades, and Hendry. The Central Florida Regional Planning Council began a visioning effort for this region in 2007 entitled Heartland 2060, and developed a broad resiliency plan, “Building a Resilient Region,” for Heartland 2060 in 2014.

Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate and Energy

October 28, 2013

The leaders of British Columbia, California, Oregon and Washington signed the Pacific Coast Action Plan on Climate and Energy on October 28, 2013 - committing their governments to a comprehensive and far-reaching strategic alignment to combat climate change and promote clean energy. The Pacific Coast Collaborative was established on June 30, 2008 when the State Governors (and Premier of BC) signed the Pacific Coast Collaborative Agreement. This agreement was the first to unite Pacific leaders in developing a shared strategy and vision for the region.

South Florida Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy 2012-2107

September 2012

The Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for South Florida is a plan to support the regional economy of Broward, Miami. Dade, and Monroe Counties. The CEDS will guide federal and state investment priorities and funding sources, and delineates lead organizations responsibilities for execution of the CEDS. The strategy takes into account the region’s vulnerability to climate impacts, and discusses advance preparation and adaptation, as well as the necessity for South Florida to become disaster resilient to remain economically strong.

City of Milwaukee, Wisconsin All Hazards Mitigation Plan

June 2012

In 2012, this All Hazard Mitigation Plan was adopted by the City of Milwaukee in compliance with requirements of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Although the plan does not have in-depth treatment of climate change, it does acknowledge that future planning should utilize estimates of how climate change will effect precipitation in the region (at p. 63).

Plan for the 21st Century - New Orleans 2030 (City of New Orleans, Louisiana Master Plan)

August 12, 2010

New Orleans, Louisiana’s “Plan for the 21st Century,” also referred to as the Master Plan, is a City Charter-mandated planning framework for New Orleans’ physical, social, environmental, and economic future. Sponsored by the City Planning Commission, the Master Plan is New Orleans' primary policy and planning document, intended to guide the city’s growth for the next 20 years. The Master Plan has proposed climate adaptation related measures represented across many sectors, and contains a chapter dedicated to Green Infrastructure, and another to Resilience.
