City of Chester, Pennsylvania Vision 2020: Climate Adaptation Planning Elements

June 25, 2014

This report is a synthesis of the results and recommendations from a two year project funded by the 2012 National Sea Grant Climate Adaptation competition to help coastal communities better plan for future coastal hazards and climate risks. It builds upon PA Sea Grant’s work piloting the NOAA Coastal Services Center’s “Roadmap for Adapting to Coastal Risk” in 2011 and subsequent climate change adaptation goals included in the City of Chester Vision 2020 comprehensive plan. Chester was selected as a grant recipient to model how coastal communities could integrate climate change adaptation into wider economic revitalization strategies.

Resilience. Preparing New Jersey for Climate Change: Policy Considerations from the NJ Climate Adaptation Alliance

June 2014

This report from the New Jersey Climate Adaption Alliance recommends a series of wide-ranging strategies to integrate the response to possible climate impacts into state regulations, local land-use decisions, and allocation of government funding in New Jersey. The Alliance focused on key sectors of agriculture; built infrastructure (transportation, energy, and telecommunications); coastal communities; emergency management; environmental justice; natural resources; public health; social services; and water resources.

Town of Guilford, Connecticut Community Coastal Resilience Plan

May 30, 2014

The Town of Guilford, Connecticut developed a Community Coastal Resilience Plan to address the current and future social, economic and ecological resilience of the town’s shoreline to sea level rise impacts and increases in storm surge, coastal flooding and erosion. This plan includes comprehensive adaptation strategies for the coastal zone, proposed regulatory changes, property acquisition tools for coastal conservation, and more.

City of Santa Cruz, California, Local Hazard Mitigation Plan Five Year Update (2102 - 2017)

May 20, 2014

The City of Santa Cruz, California Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP) Update was adopted by the City Council in 2013 and approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 2014. The LHMP addresses climate impacts and adaptation considerations for Santa Cruz  - which are further detailed in the City’s Climate Change Adaptation Plan.

NOAA Coral Reef Climate Change Strategy and Implementation Plan 2014-2016

2014

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Climate Change Strategy and Implementation Plan refines and builds upon NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program Goals and Objectives 2010-2015 to direct Program investments in reducing the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification to coral reef ecosystems. This Plan will be used by the Program to draft internal proposals, requests for federal funding, and evaluate received proposals. The Plan will guide the Program's efforts to aid coral reef managers and dependent communities.

Vermont's Roadmap to Resilience

December 16, 2013

From the Institute for Sustainable Communities (ISC) 'Vermont’s Roadmap to Resilience: Preparing for Natural Disasters and the Effects of Climate Change in the Green Mountain State' is a plan and guidance designed to increase Vermont’s preparedness for the effects of climate change and extreme weather impacts. ISC developed recommendations which are basis of the report, aimed at building the state’s resilience at the community and statewide level.

Climate Adaptation and Action Plan for the Norton Bay Watershed, Alaska

December 2013

This plan was developed by the Norton Bay Inter-Tribal Watershed Council (NBITWC) to address climate stressors, risks, and adaptation opportunities for tribal villages in the Norton Bay. NBITWC conducts research, education, and advocacy to protect and restore water resources toward tribal interests. The Council represents four Inupiat Eskimo native villages in the Bay, which is located within the Seward Peninsula in northwestern Alaska. The plan includes an economic analysis and forest and water resources assessments, focusing on the restoration of traditional knowledge as a primary adaptation strategy.

U.S. Department of Defense Arctic Strategy

The Department of Defense (DoD/Department) Arctic Strategy outlines the American military's role in carrying out the National Strategy for the Arctic Region, including maintaining peace and security in a region severely impacted by climate change. Northeast Florida Summary and Regional Action Plan - A Report of the Emergency Preparedness Committee on Sea Level Rise

November 2013

The Northeast Florida Regional Council (NFERC), a council of regional community leaders, began a sea level rise adaptation planning process with this action plan for the seven county region of Northeast Florida (Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns counties).   NEFRC assigned sea level rise as a policy issue to the Regional Community Institute of Northeast Florida, Inc. (RCI). RCI gave this task to its Emergency Preparedness Committee who reviewed and analyzed data on sea level rise, and then developed recommendations based on that analysis.

Monroe County, Florida Climate Action Plan

November 2013

The Monroe County Climate Action Plan outlines goals and recommendations for a coordinated climate change mitigation and adaptation strategy for the County government and local communities within the Florida Keys. The Keys are a series of small islands off the southern tip of Florida that are highly vulnerable to sea level rise, storms and extreme rainfall, among other climate impacts. The plan integrates mitigation and adaptation into existing policies and programs, as well as introduces new ideas based on best practices from around the country.
