From the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary (PDE), the Delaware Estuary Living Shoreline Initiative (DELSI) is a pilot project designed to stabilize eroding shorelines of tidal marshes. PDE with Rutgers University has developed the "DELSI Tactic" of living shorelines which uniquely uses a combination of native wetland plants, natural structures, and intertidal shellfish to trap sediment and absorb waves. The DELSI Tactic provides an economical approach to communities that are struggling to combat the erosion of tidal marshes.

Virginia Marine Resources Commission (VMRC) was directed by SB 964 in 2011 to develop and implement a general permit regulation that authorizes and encourages the use of living shorelines as the preferred alternative for stabilizing tidal shorelines. In 2015 and again in 2017 the VMRC established permitting regulations pursuant to SB 964. The Living Shoreline Group 1 (2015) and 2 (2017) General Permits for Certain Shoreline Treatments are regulations which streamline the permitting process incentivizing property owners to utilize a living shoreline approach to manage shoreline erosion, and promote tidal wetland vegetation to restore or enhance ecosystem services.

This National Wildlife Federation report documents the efforts of Great Lakes' cities, businesses, scientists and resource managers to adapt to climate change and protect people, wildlife and natural resources. The report calls for the widespread adoption of "climate-ready" strategies like those cited in a diverse set of case studies. The report features current climate-ready practices and policies that help build adaptive capacity in the region, and identifies tools and future opportunities for action.

As an initial effort to inform Pennsylvania’s climate adaptation planning process, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, the Pennsylvania Game Commission and The Nature Conservancy interviewed stakeholders from state and federal natural resource management agencies, research institutions, and environmental non-profit organizations. The findings from the interviews are presented in this report subtitled: “Perspectives from Conservation Leaders and Experts on Climate Change Adaptation.

Because land protection decisions are long-term, hard to reverse, and resource intensive, these decisions are important to consider in the context of climate change. Climate change may directly affect the services intended for protection and parcel selection can exacerbate or ameliorate certain impacts. Therefore, when considering long-term acquisition strategies, land protection programs should be considering both the mitigation potential of land through carbon sequestration and the adaptation potential of the land for preserving wildlife migration routes, protecting water sources, and buffering infrastructure and development from storm events.

The U. S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have built a partnership to to support state and local coastal development innovations. Under the agreement, the two agencies will partner with local communities and other governmental entities to give waterfront communities the tools and resources they need to benefit the economy, public health, and the environment while protecting coastal ecosystems, including anticipating and reducing the impacts of climate change.

This issue brief discusses key elements of marine environment adaptation policy, including rights, resources, and governance. The brief recommends establishing better-defined rights and responsibilities for commercial and recreational fisheries in order to create an adaptation portfolio for marine and coastal resources. In addition, the report suggests establishing a broader ocean governance framework that includes comprehensive planning, allocation of dominant use zones and user rights within zones, and ecological standards.

This report discusses the increasing effects of climate change on freshwater resources and ecosystem services. It focuses on types of socioeconomic and biotic adaptations, and provides an overview of direct and cumulative impacts. Perspectives on adaptive responses are offered, and the results of five case studies are included which demonstrate regional adaptation measures. The series of case studies - from Massachusetts, New York, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and California - are used to illustrate ecosystem services that are able to adapt to to extreme variations in precipitation.
