Climate Change and National Park Wildlife: A Survival Guide for a Warming World

August 2009

This report, from the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA), recommends strategies to help wildlife adapt to the conditions caused by climate change, including providing land corridors, and reducing stress from pollution and invasive species. Included are five steps for safeguarding wildlife from climate change, and eleven wildlife profiles which address impacts to specific vulnerable eco-regions and provide possible solutions. .

Emerging Climate Change Impacts on Freshwater Resources: A Perspective on Transformed Watersheds

June 2009

This report discusses the increasing effects of climate change on freshwater resources and ecosystem services. It focuses on types of socioeconomic and biotic adaptations, and provides an overview of direct and cumulative impacts.   Perspectives on adaptive responses are offered, and the results of five case studies are included which demonstrate regional adaptation measures. The series of case studies - from Massachusetts, New York, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, and California - are used to illustrate ecosystem services that are able to adapt to to extreme variations in precipitation.

Connecting Biodiversity and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation

2009

The Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Biodiversity and Climate Change was established under the Convention of Biological Diversity to inform and update the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change on biodiversity-related information. This report of the second AHTEG provides scientific and technical assessments and advice on integrating biodiversity conservation and sustainable use of natural resources into climate change mitigation and adaptation activities.

Forest-Climate Working Group

February 2009

The Forest-Climate Working Group (FCWG) is a broad and diverse coalition of forest stakeholders formed to develop consensus recommendations for U. S. forest components of federal climate legislation. The participants in the Forest-Climate Working Group — landowner, industry, conservation, wildlife, carbon finance, and forestry organizations — engaged in a year of facilitated consensus dialog to develop this policy platform. Their recommendations focus in three areas:  1) Offset Credits for Forest Carbon Activities; 2) Beyond Offsets - Incentive, Research, and Technical Assistance Programs; and 3) Forest Adaptation; which are detailed in this report.
