Gulf Coast Wetland Sustainability in a Changing Climate

December 2007

This paper describes the current and projected impacts on Gulf coast wetlands from land development and water management practices, in concert with the increasing frequency and intensity of extreme climatic events such as hurricanes, flooding as well as sea-level rise. It is one of four case studies in an overall report, "Regional Impacts of Climate Change: Four Case Studies in the United States," that examines impacts of particular interest to different regions of the U. S. .

NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy

August 28, 2015

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service Strategy is designed to help regional fishery managers respond to climate change's effect on marine resources. The report identifies key objectives to increase production, delivery, and use of climate-related information to support the management of fish stocks, fisheries, and protected species. The Strategy outlines a clear path for NOAA Fisheries and partners to deliver the science enterprise, information and tools needed for climate-ready decision-making.

Transforming the Means and Ends of Natural Resource Management

2011

This article, from the North Carolina Law Review, addresses limitations of existing regulatory systems to manage the effects of climate change on natural resources in the United States. The Article explores the implications of continuing to rely on conventionally static and fragmented decision making, passive management, and historical preservation when global climatic shifts are widely expected to lead to rapid changes in ecological systems that are unforeseen, novel, and potentially detrimental to ecological diversity and function.

The Effects of Climate Change on the Downhill Skiing and Recreational Fishing Economy in the Crown of the Continent

January 2011

This report focuses on the Montana portion of the "Crown of the Continent" region, the home of Glacier National Park and extensive protected wilderness areas where recreational fishing and downhill skiing have have contributed significantly to population and job growth. The impacts of climate change on these industries are analyzed, which are susceptible to changes in temperature, snowpack, and the timing of precipitation.

NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy Regional Action Plans

December 2016

NOAA Fisheries and its partners have developed six Regional Action Plans to guide implementation of the NOAA Fisheries Climate Science Strategy for each region (Northeast, Southeast, Gulf of Mexico, Alaska, Western, Pacific Islands).  The regional plans identify the priority actions that NOAA Fisheries and affiliated agencies plan to take over the next five years to implement the seven objectives of the Strategy. The actions are focused on tracking changing conditions including climate impacts, and identifying the best strategies to reduce impacts and sustain marine resources.

Managing Coastal Watersheds to Address Climate Change: Vulnerability Assessment and Adaptation Options for the Middle Patuxent Subwatershed of the Chesapeake Bay

August 2013

The purpose of this project and report is to help the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its partners to address climate change impacts in the Chesapeake Bay, focusing on how to integrate climate change into coastal restoration and conservation activities. To do this, the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) worked with NOAA, a panel, and technical experts to identify climate change impacts for the Middle Patuxent sub-watershed and developed options for adapting restoration and conservation practices to address those impacts.
