New Hampshire SB 376-FN: An Act relative to wildlife corridors

June 10, 2016

New Hampshire Senate Bill 376-FN requires the Fish and Game Department to identify existing and needed wildlife corridors connecting wildlife habitats in the state, and to make recommendations for legislative changes. SB 376 is designed to help improve wildlife corridors and thereby support wildlife resilience in light of climate change and development pressures.

Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative

November 4, 2014

The Florida Water and Land Conservation Initiative, Amendment 1, approved on November 4, 2014, dedicates state funds to acquire and restore Florida conservation and recreation lands. The measure is designed to dedicate 33 percent of net revenue from the existing excise tax to fund the Land Acquisition Trust Fund.

Maryland HB 118: Bay Acidification Bill

May 5, 2014

Maryland's Bay Acidification Bill (House Bill 118), signed into law by Governor Martin O’Malley in May 2014, taking effect July 1, 2014, creates a Task Force to evaluate and address the effects of ocean acidification and the changing chemistry in the Chesapeake Bay and other Maryland waterways.

New Hampshire Ecosystems and Wildlife Climate Change Adaptation Plan

October 2013

This 2013 Adaptation Plan from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department (NHFG) is an amendment to New Hampshire’s 2005 Wildlife Action Plan (WAP), which even then acknowledged climate change as a primary challenge for the state’s ecosystems and wildlife.

Establishing the Washington Coastal Marine and Marine Resources Advisory Councils (2013-14 ESB 5603)

July 28, 2013

Effective July 28, 2013 under Washington Governor Jay Inslee, Engrossed Senate Bill 5603 established a Coastal Marine Advisory Council and a Marine Resources Advisory Council. The Coastal Marine Advisory Council was created to be a forum for discussing a variety of coastal water issues and to provide recommendations to the governor and legislature on coastal waters resource management issues. The Marine Resources Advisory Council was created to focus more specifically on issues of ocean acidification and provide recommendations to the governor and legislature of actions to reduce the effects and sources of ocean acidification.

Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Climate Change Adaptation Framework

This report from the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources (ANR) addresses climate change impacts on four natural resource sectors including wildlife, fisheries, forestry, and water resources.  After detailing climate impacts on each sector, a strategic climate adaptation framework is proposed for continued climate change vulnerability assessment and action planning.

Virginia's Climate Modeling and Species Vulnerability Assessment: How Climate Data Can Inform Management and Conservation

2013

This project developed models of select fish, wildlife and tree species distributions in Virginia under multiple climate change scenarios, and produced a species vulnerability assessment for the state. The assessment is intended to help decision makers better understand how climate change will likely affect sensitive species and habitats in Virginia. The project was funded by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF) through a State Wildlife Grant, and by the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) with funding from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, and was supported by research from the Conservation Management Institute at Virginia Tech.

Washington State Blue Ribbon Panel on Ocean Acidification Report – “Ocean Acidification: From Knowledge to Action”

The Washington State Blue Ribbon Panel, which was convened by former governor Christine Gregoire in February 2012, released this report in November 2012 to detail its findings and recommendations for addressing the sources of and adapting to the impacts of ocean acidification.
