The U. S. Geological Survey (USGS) has developed a web-based application that operates in conjunction with the existing StreamStats application for New York State to incorporate projected precipitation changes under various 21st century climate change scenarios. This application will allow transportation planners and engineers to explore how climate change may affect high flows, which can assist with the design of over-water infrastructure (such as culverts and bridges) to accommodate these changes.

From the re:focus partners RE. bound Program, this report offers a perspective on how cities and communities seeking to build resilience and mitigate disaster risk can monetize the benefits of resilient infrastructure through catastrophe models and other bond measures. The approach links catastrophe bonds and conventional project finance to support large-scale resilience projects. The report describes the RE. bound Program framework for catastrophe modeling, bond structuring, and bond sponsorship - while providing some key insights and lessons for extending the approach to a range of resilience applications.

The Adapting to Rising Tides (ART) Program of the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) leads and supports multi-sector, cross-jurisdictional projects that build local and regional capacity in the San Francisco Bay Area of California to plan for and implement adaptation responses. ART offers an online ‘Portfolio’ to provide access to the planning guidance, tools, data and information for adaptation planning in the Bay Area - with a focus on resiliency of shoreline and community resources to sea level rise and coastal storm events, among other climate impacts.

The Coastal Storm Modeling System (CoSMoS) is a numerical modeling system used to predict coastal flooding due to climate change-driven sea-level rise and storms. CoSMos provides explicit, deterministic modeling of all the relevant physics (e. g. , tides, waves, surge) of a coastal storm scaled down to local flood resolution projections. The system provides coastal planners and emergency managers with hazard information to inform coastal management, mitigate physical damage, and enhance public safety.

This website describes the scenarios used for the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT), a tool to help water and wastewater utilities prepare for climate change. The tool includes a map that shows projected climate change across the U. S. The map is separated into grids (roughly 32 x 32 miles). Each grid displays projections for annual total precipitation, annual average temperature, and precipitation intensity for the 100-year storm.

This self-assessment tool from the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency is a checklist of “smart growth” strategies for local governments and planners that can help inform the development of healthier and more resilient communities. This “yes”/“no” checklist is organized by eleven goal areas common to rural communities, each including examples of associated strategies from around the country with related resource links. The self-assessment allows rural communities to identify strengths and gaps in policies, plans, programs, codes, and zoning regulations which can help inform subsequent identification of high- and medium-priority strategies to address a community’s unique goals and needs.

The Climate Hubs Tool Shed provides information on tools to support agricultural and forest land managers in adapting to climate change. The database includes tools that are directly relevant to climate variability and change, as well as tools that can assist in managing climate related impacts, such as drought, pests, and extreme weather. The Tool Shed is managed by the U. S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) - who describes the target audience as Climate Hub extension and consultants, as well as land managers, land owners, and researchers.

This report presents metrics for assessing the resilience of natural and artificial coastal features most affected by Hurricane Sandy along the Northeast coast - such as beaches, dunes, wetlands, and grey and green infrastructure. The focal coastal ecological and infrastructure assets identified are Department of the Interior (DOI) funded projects as implemented through the Disaster Relief Appropriations Act. The report establishes a set of ecological performance metrics for detecting changes in resilience resulting from the project actions, and provides recommendations for completing an assessment of how DOI projects have affected the resilience of the Northeastern coast.
